Can you ID these snakes?

Can you make a positive ID on both these snakes?

I know its kind of blurry... sorry, bad photographer. I admit it.

The prize you ask? Pride of not being a blindman.

Ha... No Dinner

Arizona Mt. King (pyromelanus) and Rough Green... D&L caught the rough green, he kind of snuck in the picture.

The arizonas are too timid to eat the rough green. I suppose if I starved them long enough they might try to eat one of them - but its pretty doubtful. Those little rough greens are pretty quick.

The arizonas will only eat mice and even when i have handled other snakes, they dont get jumpy or nippy... very very timid.

The Arizonas are like the honor students and valedictorians, while my brooksi and cal king are the "troublemakers" (cannibals).

If you are houseing those guys together, you are just asking for trouble. Though canabilizim is low in pyros it is still a possibility. Also, I would never house a fresh WC snake (especially of a different species) with a CB or LTC animal. WCs should go through a isolation period, in which they can be monitored for any problems. Most recomend at least a month, but if you are relatively new to snakes I would reccomend at least 3 months. Do a search for "cohab" to see what others say about it.

The rough green snakes are second gen captive bred and hatched snakes. See my avatar? Those are the snakes you see in the pictures with the pyro.

So... no need to worry about parasites etc... they are clean.

You're pyro looks like it has very little black in that picture
Mine is LOADED with it! :grin01:

Thats because it is at least 66% heterozygous for hypomelanism - both parents were hypomelanistic pyros - i believe they originated from Terry Dunham - but not sure 100%.

Arizona's have white snouts too... what are you talking about???

Wow, never look at your avatar, you hardly ever see CB rough greens, kinda cool. So, if you knew what kind of snakes you had, why did you ask? Even though both snakes are CB, most will agree that it is best to not house snakes together, especially cross-genera.

both parents were hypo but he is only 66% chance het? i dont get it.

My mistake... he was one of the two distinguishable hypos from his clutch of three eggs (actually 4, but the fourth was bad)... so he and his brother are both hypo when compared to his one other non-hypo or normal brother (all 3 were males).

And I honestly am not sure if it is the Sentz trait or just a weird hypo trait???
But they are from a Sentz line - I wont know what these guys true genetics are until I prove them out through a known female - I am waiting until next year to do that and hoping I can pick up a nice female for under $300 with some interesting genetics.

Also, I don't really think they technically differentiate the pyros into specific subspecies anymore unless you are talking about knoblochi (sp?) or the mexican/southern arizona - which is just differentiated by band count.

I wish I knew more about these specifics - I think most of those mountains out there are all pretty close together so... Kind of like I am italian, but am I cicilian or mainlander? Did one of my ancestors sail from cicily and bring back a hot little italian mama and intergrade? Who knows...?
