canon xti-extension/macros?????

bella

mmm zombies....
i loooove photography and i have been dabling in it for the past few years, classes and such. but i am in no way fully emersed in the field. i have been considered picking up one of the slr canon rebel xti's. mainly because that was the main camera i had been working with-though not mine-and i have really gotten used to it.
i have been trying to do some research online but a lot is a little over my head at this point..
im just asking-esp. if someone else has the camera-about any extension lenses/macro or anything. does the company have any decent extra lenses or is the camera compatiable with other brands?like many others i love close up shots and wanted to grab some sort of a extra power lense. and yes i know not everyone loves the "canon" lol but it is just that i have used it before and at least have a basis of knowledge about it.
-i know there are some threads about macro but i wanted to pin-point a little concerning the canon xti

The XTi will work with any Canon EF/EF-S lens I believe, as well as Canon-mount lenses from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina. For high-quality glass I'd suggest you go for either the Canon 60mm Macro or the Canon 100mm Macro. However if you're not out to spend that much money, cheaper alternatives are avaliable from the others.

thankx-that actually helps a lot!!, now i have somehwere to start looking at..ill do some more research but im thinking if im putting out a lot of money for the camera might as well get a good quality lens..well see

Yeah the lens is where the quality matters most. There's alot of people out there on a tight budget using the original Digital Rebel (3 generations old now) with nice lenses, and still taking amazing pictures.

100mm macros are pretty slick (100mm Canon or 105mm Sigma) and loved everywhere. I just wish someone would make something more along the lines of an 85mm Macro for use APS-C sensor people. I know Canon makes a 60mm macro (96mm for us APS-C types), but its EF-S mount. While that will work for my 20D, I'm hesitant to buy EF-S lenses should I go full frame next year...

was going to mention extension tubes - many people on POTN (and if you have a Canon, you need to at least look at POTN once a week: www.photography-on-the.net) will highly suggest Kenko extension tubes. They can be had very inexpensively and are compatible with Canon. Comes in a three tube set so you can mix and match for whatever you're needs desire.
