You're right! I have a piece of newsprint over the UTH area, but under the substrate to keep their bellys off of that part.

It is our preference - but some might consider it unnecessary. Not all of our large cages or aquariums is competely emptied of bedding on a weekly basis, but all the tubs in our racks are emptied completely and washed weekly. We spot clean everything daily, but it just doesn't remove all the dried urates or feces - some always soaks into bedding and dries or accumulates as dust in the bottom of the tub and I don't think it is healthy for my guys to be crawling through that.
