carpet pythons

Much better choice.....IMO Ball pythons can be worrying to own. They tend to be shy. And hide a lot.
Carpets like to hang out in branches, so you get to see them. They feed well and the IJ is docile....A no brainer.....But only MY opinion...I know a lot of you like the Ball......Each to there own....LOL

Both are great animals to have in a collection. It really comes down to a few things. Which you like best. Which ones demands for husbandry = what you are willing to provide.
I have both, my carpets have very strong feeding responses, not to be confused with aggressive behavior. I can tell you from experience that I'd rather be bitten by a ball python any day compared to an adult carpet.:)

Also, carpets are skinnier, but longer than ball pythons, I am not sure how long they get but I've seen pictures of some big ones.
I'm a BP person and I reccomend them over any other snake.

I've got an IJ and she's awesome! Wonderful feeder, great to handle, and fun to watch :)

Here she is:

I'd absolutely love to get an IJ myself, but my main concern is the size they get to be eventually. I don't want to be one of these dopes who loves a snake when it's small and young and ignores it when it gets bigger.

IJ
Colors washed out tho :(

oh man hes so awesome cant wait to get one one question does he bite at all?

Hunter:)

She hasn't bitten me yet and I've had her for over 2 weeks now (not a huge amount of time but still) :grin01:

As long as you make the handling approach determined and firm, yet gentle, you should be fine. Even the most defensive snakes usually calm down in a moment as soon as you pick them up (not all though, as I learnt in Cyprus, lol).

Monger, I'm not remotely concerned about her adult size. I knew how big she'd get and that's specifically why I went for an IJ, since they're one of the smaller subspecies. In terms of length, they're about the same as a Corn, and in terms of girth, yeah they're a little bigger. But I make sure that I handle twice after every feeding (after the 48 hours are up) to save my hands (or any other extremity) in the future. ;)

All the best

David

If your going to get a carpet, get an IJ, They stay smaller, and from all I have dealt with, Are more calm... Never been bit my a IJ, and constantly shed blood from my Jungles.. But IMO Jungles just look SO much better :D

:) Awesome ... though, I have to say, i'd go with a ball python. Of course, im not too fond of the larger pythons - i've grown quite attached to the boas. Anyways, do what you will and good luck with your new snake when you acquire him/or her.

Good choice....You won't be sorry...
We just had ours out for a quick climb......You'll be amazed at the reach on these guys.
They seem to defy gravity.....LOL

I can only describe mines feeding response as "Dr Jekyll/ Mr Hyde". He's as docile as an old dog, until feeding time. And the bite's kinda hurt lol. Only been bitten once, but i really hope it was the last time...

Still, go with an IJ :*)
