Cat help needed

as far as licking the chest wound, you can rub bitter apple spray AROUND the wound with your finger and that should, but not always, deter him. I som'times think the E collar is more stressful on the animal than it is worth, especially with a cat.

We have tried bitter apple... he licks it off carefully. It has no effect on him. We also tried a t-shirt, which was shredded within 24 hours... actually within 12 I think. Put it on him in the afternoon, found it in pieces the next morning. The e-collar is the last resort.

I'm glad he went back, my first thought was "male cat + squatting in litterbox + no urine = BLOCKAGE!" So I'm really happy to hear that that's not the case. I hope he's feeling better soon. Poor guy.

And we really do not have the money for surgery... the money we put into this vet appointment is supposed to go to the damn mortgage, the power bill and Tara's mortgage.... *sigh*

I really hate this.

I had a similar thing happen with a cat before, and the vet said it was a urinary track infection. Not sure how much this relates to your cat, but this is all that I could think of. Good luck, and I hope he gets well soon.

Yes, the symptoms are similar to that of a UTI. Perhaps the precursor to a UTI that we are catching early. They don't know. His bladder was inflamed and there was some detritus in it. Hopefully we caught it early and it won't progress. *fingers crossed*

Have you tried som' preventitive stuff just in case? :)They make cranberry cat treats that my cats adore! Also wellness cat food has cranberry in it already...

Of course giving cranberry will mess with a UTI test, but if hes had one already, it wouldn't hurt.

Sorry your going through this, sounds like a mess.

No, we haven't! This is the first time we've gone through this. Do you have links? I tried talking to the vet about preventatives... her solution was to give me two cans of moist Science Diet cat food and a prescription for more.... I really don't know how I feel about him being on Science Diet.

Right now we are feeding Blue for Indoor Cats. The younger cat, Evie, got horrible diahreah when she was on Purina ONE Urinary Tract Health, so we switched, and now, within three months of switching, we're having this issue with him. *sigh*
