I've been thinking about getting a charcoal corn for almost a year. I finally broke down and got one from Don Soderberg at South Mountain Reptiles. She arrived today. I'm in love. I got a female because I didn't want to deal with the hormonal issues of males during breeding season. I've been set on the name Severus though, because she's black and grey and Severus is my favorite Harry Potter character. She explored her new home, looking for escape routes, I guess, for about 10 minutes, grabbed a drink of water, then went to sleep in her tree. She spent the day there. I found her about 30 minutes ago in her warm hide. I'm glad she likes both hiding places. Don't worry, I'm not handling her for at least a week until after her first meal, but I couldn't help taking pictures.

The charcoal morph is my favorite in all it's forms and Don is a the best person to deal with in the whole world. Congrats on your little one. Just to let everyone know since you brought it up male corns do not have any "hormonal issues" at all and in fact I find them a lot easier to deal with on a daily basis that females.

I've been seeing posts over the last couple of months about people's males refusing to eat and trying to escape to find females. I have an '09 female and I've never had any problems with her. I've never had a male. Why do you find males easier to deal with? I'm always looking to learn more about corn snakes.

I think it is more a case by case basis, but I have had more moody females than males but even then the numbers are very small. Some corns escape or try just cause they can and I don't think it is because of looking for males or females. Out of the 100's of corns I've had I only had one male that quit eating and even then it was just for a month.
Corns are so much easier if compared to the kings and pines I've had with some kings (females mostly) not eating for long periods of time and some female pines being very moody when they get big. The male hogs are the worst though not eating all summer during breeding season.
I don't mean to hijack your thread, I really do love the charcoals (the majority of my corns are some type of charcoal) and maybe I should have taken this part of the thread to another part of the forums.

Don't worry about hijacking. I wouldn't have asked if I wasn't interested. I'll keep this in mind for the probable eventuality of my getting a third snake.
