Charting question.....

Does anyone know if there is a place on the internet where I can print off or download a blank chart so I can keep track of my snakes feeding, sheddings, etc.? Now that he had his first shed, I would love to keep track of it. Thanks for any help!!

Your best bet is if you have excel or works or some other spreadsheet program to create what would work best for you. In 4 years I've created several different versions as my needs and collection have changed. If it's just one snake, a notebook and pencil would work best for me.

Coolness! Thanks! Yeah, I just have one snake. I just want to make sure that I chart everything I need to chart. So, shedding, feeding, measuring. Anything else I should do?

Personally, I keep track of feeding dates, item fed (pinky, fuzzy, hopper etc.), f/t or prekilled. I track their shed dates. I also weigh them once a month . . . or so. Regurges if they happen. I snap an updated photo every 6 months at the most, and use this to measure their length with Serp's program. I think that's about it off the top of my head. . . . Oh, you only have one, so it's not in your realm (right now), but I track brumation dates and temps as well as breeding information.

I chart sheds, poops, if I see them, when I feed them, what size mouse, if I produced it, whether it was live or f/t, if I put vitamins and calcium on it or not, and whether they ate it forward or backward. I don't write it all out, but have abbreviations for everything. One feeding will read: 1 f/t fuzzy, s, m, f, which means that they ate 1 f/t fuzzy, with supplements, and it was mine, and that he ate it forwards. I also weigh them when they shed and record that. Also I have recorded events like regurge (only one so far, thank God), striking for the first time, trip to the vet, being popped, stuff like that. Of course, I am a total nerd with no life, so no one really has to be THAT specific. I just like to keep track of things. And I'm a bit crazy about it sometimes. :crazy02:

There is a charting program that can be downloaded online from a herp guy. I haven't used it yet, but its supposed to be good. I will try to find the site for you, then post it.
Cheers!

I have a little notebook that I keep in my office to keep track of his feedings, sheds etc :) If I get more snakes in the future I may use Excel or Word or something.

I use a program called free herp get it from proherp.com it's free and seems very hi tech i only use half of it but it seems great.

i just downloaded Free Herp. its awesome..basically you keep Profile on your snakeys...its great! Just what i needed...thank you :crazy02:

I use date books. I picked some up at the dollar store, one for each, and write the info in there.

After I looked at it, there is a different one I was going to recommend. I will look for that one for ya.

i just keep a journal. a normal, write things down journal. so, a question guys, do these programs really work? do you prefer them over a journal? i was just thinking if it is something i can look into. espically since i'm thinking about breeding in a year or two.

Wow!! I didn't expect this many replies!! Thanks guys!! You all answered my question!! You're all awesome!! :)

I plan to use a basic ledger to track their history and health.

Feedings/sheds/weight etc etc as headers and the name of the snake on the side.

I only have snakes right now so I just use a calendar.

Hey there. I just downloaded the software from Proherp.com and it's different than the one I had before. I haven't played with it yet to know which I like better, but I have a program called Reptile Care software. You can find it here >>
