The one downside that I can think of is that it is very light and the snake can flip it over and move it around the tank.
The toilet paper tubes work perfectly for babies and then paper towel rolls for the bigger ones. The whole tube works rather well. I set 1/3 of mine over the heat pad so that they can move around in the tube to a comfortable temperature.
