Cheap Setups

Ok I want to know if anyone has suggestions on a decent setup for an adult corn other then the classic glass viv/uth/thermostat etc etc. I am looking to get another corn but don't want to shell out 200 for a setup if I can avoid it.

I don't think it gets much more basic or cheaper than what you just mentioned. I figure if you can't afford the right setup then you can't afford the snake.

Zach, what about a tub set up, or garage sales for tanks, that's where I got some of mine. susang

I was kinda thinking about a tub setup. Not for long term but for the first few weeks. Do you just get a big sterilite tub? and put heat cable in it?

All mine are in tubs and seem to be thriving in them. Over here wooden vivs are more common, so I'm sure some keepers would think I'm cheap for not paying £100 upwards for a wooden box with glass doors, instead of £8 per tub. I have heat cable (on a thermostat) running along the back of each shelf but before the addiction took hold just had regulated heatmats under each tub.

If you don't want to use the classic or tub/sterlite container. You won't be able to avoid the cost. Your alway going to need a heat source and a thermostat.

I'm just wondering how you managed to spend 200 on a simple corn set up o_O

I can totally spend $200 on a 20L, with the UTH, thermostat, thermometer, hides, water bowl, vines, branches, etc.

I don't know how many snakes you plan on acquiring eventually, but I just bought an Animal Plastics Economy Plastic rack that holds five 66 quart Sterilites, which are slightly bigger than 20Ls, if you don't care about clearly seeing your snakes in their vivs. $195 plus shipping. With heat. I'm hoping I can decorate just as fancy as I can in a 20L...

Well Nanci I know that :crazy02:
I just don't understand how you justify spending $200 on the basics when you know you're trying to do it cheaper :shrugs:

Like everything else in life, it just snowballs! You've been to My Space and seen my gate in the blog. Yeah. I'm embarassed to tell ANYONE how much that cost. Let's just say four times what the original estimate was...:eek::eek:

You could find a used tank at a yard sale $5-$10 bucks
and make you own hides,I was able too. And go to a dollar store for a water dish.
Just a thought.

Thats kinda the sort of thing I was looking for in this thread but someon asked how I could spend 150-200 on a setup i was just breaking it down.

If you look in the right places you can save a few pounds quite easily. I spent a good few hundred pounds on my first set up, because at the time I didnt know what I know now, and went for a 'starter kit' from a petshop and brought several extras. When I got my second, I got a tank from a carboot (garage sale) for £2, made my own ventilated lid, £1.50, and its just as good as the £65 one from the petshop!!! One think I dont think you can be cheap with though is the heat source and thermostat, they always help to bump the cost up :)

The petco by my house has uth's for 16.99 and thermostats on sale for 20 bucks.. The sad thing is no one uses thermostats around here which is why they are so low.

oh well more for me :dancer:

I wish they were that cheap here and that they actually had some. I have bought all the ones this town seems to stock haha.
