Cleaning the poo

Generally you can spot-clean the poo, and then completely replace the substrate about once a month. I usually just use a little plastic spoon to scoop it out and throw it away - if he gets it on one of his caves I clean and disinfect it before putting it back.

Yeah... I do what Kate does. Spot clean and then change the whole substrate once a month. I wouldn't go much longer than a month as the white dry part of the waste can build up on the bottom of the tank.

i just reach in and pull out poop with my hands. after a while you get used to having to clean a lot of poop, so it works. just buy a lot of hand sanitizer from a wholesale club and keep it nearby. and i replace the bedding for everyone once a month. but if needed i replace it earlier if water spills or they make a big mess on it. but that doesnt happen often.

I just got a young corn snake. Only about 14 inches long. How hard is it going to be to track down its poo in the aspen? Should I just change it all out weekly?

its not all that hard to track down. i find they like to poop in corners as much as they can to avoid it. well maybe thats just my animals. they have no set corner, but a corner in general does the trick. if you wanted and only have an animal or 2 i guess you could change out the bedding once a week. but at the same time if its a young animal thats gonna be a lot of stress on them constantly moving them around to change it out and also having to feed them once a week.

I clean my little guys' enclosures when I have them in their tubs to feed them. They are on aspen, and their little poops look like black dots. They're usually very dry, so all I have to do is pick them up with a little bit of the surrounding aspen. This works really well for me. They certainly don't smell the way the Bob's (our big amel) poops do, and are much easier to clean up!

I put duct tape across the cloaca. Then once a month I remove it and give the snake a nice warm bath. The cage itself is always sparkley clean.

LOL...and PETA hasen't broken in to your house, freed the snakes and burnt the place to the ground??

Uh huh... riiiiggghhhhtttt.

I use a papertowl to "scoop the poop" during spot cleanings. This way its not all on my hands. Then i sanitize.
