clear stage?

xerxes

addict
i dont have much time so im going to get right to the point. xerxes hasnt eaten for over 3 weeks. he's also been ready to shed for a while. i already asked a question earlier because he was blue but the blue went away. i was told that this was called the clear stage and that this meant that he would shed in the next 24-48 hours. well its been three days and still nothing has happend. whenever he moves around i can hear him breathe (ri?). when i tried to feed him just now he almost seemed scared of the mouse, he just looked at it then turned away. so yeah to sum up into a set of questions....
should i worry about him not shedding yet?
should i worry about him not eating yet?
how likely is it that he has a respratory infection?

I've gone back and read some of your posts and looked at the pics you posted, Nice looking snake.

I saw in one of your pics that you had a hide for him, I didn't see anything about a moist hide. Do you have one?

I offer food to my snakes weather they are blue or not. Some will eat, others won't. I don't make the decision for them.

Three weeks without food is nothing for an adult snake like yours. 48 hours till shed is a guide line, but nothing is exact and everyone is different. Your snake will shed when he is ready. I mark on the feeding chart when I see that a snake is blue and again when he sheds. Sometimes there is 2 or 3 weeks between the two markings. Sometimes I miss the blue all together. But I don't sweat it, it will happen when it does.

Bottom line, make sure all your husbandry is right. Cage size, substraight, temperatures, hides, quality of food, fresh water. You do all of that and your snake will be just fine on his own.

Butter, my 4 yr old er... butter corn, took nearly a week to shed after going clear. If everything else is good to go, then it's really up to your snake as to when the old skin become annoying enough for it to bother to peel itself.
