Climbing Question

I know Corns can be great escape artists, but mine seems to love to climb and I want to let it. I have a 10 gallon tank. Any Suggestions for driftwood of climbing structures?

Driftwood is a good choice. I have a big piece in the middle of my cage and my snake loves it. I bought mine at a local petstore for maybe 6 dollars. Most petstores i have gone too have them. I think its okay to get sticks from outside but you have to do something to them. (wash or boil not too sure) If your snake likes to climb thats probably a good idea.

If you want to use wood form outside most people actually recommend baking it in the oven, although I an not sure of the temps and times to do so.

Honestly though, unless you just find that perfect piece of driftwood you are really better off just buying one from a LPS.

I heard if you wanna use a stick from outside you just need to nuke it in the microwave for like 10 seconds or something to kill any bugs or bacteria on it. :shrugs:

I have artificial plants (silk flowers, vines, etc) in all my vivs. I have one five month old amel stripe who thinks he's a tree python. He even eats in his tree house. I like artificial plants. They're cheap, readily available, and parasite free.

Besides, it's kinda cool to match the plants to the color of the snake. Maybe I'm watching to much Home and Garden TV? :dancer:

I only spent around 20 bucks on this entire setup.($14-waterdish, $2-plants,$4-aspen) i got all of the drift wood and rocks from my friends cabin. I sprayed it down with water, then baked the wood in the oven at 250 for 3 hours. I also boiled the rocks

You're so silly! :grin01: But I tend to use contrasting colors (so I can find my snake).

You can also try the plastic vine/plant that come with suction cups, I plan on getting some this weekend and stick them to the back wall of Annie's viv. Most pet stores sell driftwood in various sizes, I just found/cut some branches of a tree in my backyard and stripped the bark off and baked them @ 350 degrees for 45 min. and took some plastic leaves and attached them to the sticks. I'm not sure if this pic shows it very well...it's one of the few pics I have that is small enough to upload.
