Bummer, thats still $.75 a lb. I would sell 9 lbs to some kids in your neighborhood so they can blow some stuff up (for $1 a lb even, they don't know the difference). That way your CO2 would be free.
 
No thanks. .75 a lb is great for just one lb, but not 10 when you need 1 or 2.

I'll stick to the free co2 refills on tuesdays for my 20 oz tank. I have to make the trip maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

As I said before smashing my rodents filthy little heads in will be the way I work as I have in the past. CO2 is "out of my element" so to speak because I have never done it before I can obviously not have an opinion on it. DAG! I would go paintballing every weekend if CO2 was free for me on any day of the week.

Where in the world do you live that you get free C02 on Teusdays????
Let's do the math:
I pay approx $3 for a refill of a 20 ounce.
I have (I counted) 6 20 oz. tanks,

So.... I would be able to get $18 of C02 for free in I lived where you were. :)

Haha, they put out a warning in my area for people to be carefull about getting the mail because "hoodlums" were trying to blow them up..... I wonder what that is all about.... :uhoh:
 
Here in the Chicago area there is a chain called "Bad Boyz Toyz" that sells paintball and skateboarding junk. They are also somehow affiliated with a paintball field somewhere in the area.

If you buy the tank at the store and leave their huge sticker on the tank, they will refill it free on tuesdays. Otherwise fills are $2.

I have 1 tank off Ebay and one tank bought at Bad Boyz Toyz.

My CO2 chamber is quite small so I get a LOT of use out of 2 full tanks. I only have to refill every 5-6 months or so.

Lol. This topic is really off-topic. Anyhow,

You have to refill every 5-6 months? If I want to play once, I have to refill. Playing about 4 times a mounth, I refill about 48 times a year. I don't know which style of PB you play, but I play tournament and go through several thousand balls in a matter of hours. This adds up to tons of C02 usage.
 
Who said anything about paintball? I use the CO2 strictly for rodent euthanasia. I don't have a paintgun.

I mentioned how often I have to refull as a comparison to those who claim dry ice is cheaper or more convenient.

If I were using dry ice, I'd have to be running to the store for "co2" about 40 times a year rather that 2 or 3.
Plus, even if I had a source for 1 lb increments of dry ice, that would come to about $40 a year for dry ice as opposed to about $6 for CO2 refills. So the initial cost for the 20 oz co2 tank and remote coil are made up within 1-2 years.

If you are spending THAT much for CO2 refills, you should really look into getting a large CO2 tank and refilling your 20 oz tanks yourself. There are places that rent 20 lb or larger CO2 tanks for home brewing and soda machines.

Out of 1 20 lb refill you can fill up 16 20 oz tanks.

Ohhhhhh.....

I have my own larger cannister (forget the oz.) and would refill my own tanks, but have yet to get around to buying all of the filling hardware.
 
i do it with all of mine then again i got a tank set up in my one freezer thats set up just for my mice and rats

Are you aware that freezing is considered inhumane and is not an acceptable method of euthanasia, according to scientific and veterinary guidelines?
 
I use the 20oz CO2 method. The chamber I have set up is an 8 inch length of PVC with a valve on one end and a closed cap with connecter for the tank on the other. I can fit easily 6 to 8 mice in it and they die quickly. It is rather inexpensive to build and refills for the tank here is 3.50.

Just another option for you to consider. Good luck in whatever way you decide to go.

Actually, it is considered acceptable in some labs. I have never heard of straight to freezing being considered acceptable.

By the way, am I the only one who used vinegar and baking soda?

I decided quite awhile ago that I'd GLADLY pay not to have to change rodent bedding. When I absolutely need live feeders, I just go to my local herp-friendly petstore. So I don't have to worry about all of this anymore.
