Comic Book Values!?!

bryanc

Peeple of zee wurl, relax
My brother just came back from seeing our Mom and he grabbed both of our collections of comic books. I was just checking out some of the values of the issues I can remember having and I am blown away. I have about 300 dollars worth of comics that I can remember right now. And that's only from about 20 different books. Crazy. :crazy02:

Maybe if I play my cards right I can trade for that rack I have been eyeing for awhile. :) Because there has to be a connection between comics and colubrids right?

What time period are they from?

I tried to sell my collection from the early 90's and couldnt find a buyer, although according to the price guilds a had some killer stuff.

Good luck to ya. Maybe the comic market is rebounding.

Check out ebay and see what they're actually selling for. Sometimes, that's a lot different from what they're "worth." It will give you a better idea of what you could actually get for them.

any market will bear only what people are willing to pay....The Guide may say its worth 300.00 but if nobody will pay the 300.00 is it really worth that? It is the same with the snake market I'm more than willing to be t that neither Bob Clark or Mike willbanks sold a lucy for 100,000.00 cash!

Collectibles go in phases, it'a all in the timing. For example there was the Avon collecting craze, that has kind of fizzled so those little figural bottles will say $5 or more each in a price guide but the reality is that you can't hardly even give them away.
I go to a local auction and sell what I buy there at flea markets sometimes and I know I have sold a lot of things for less than their actual value, and some things are worth hanging onto until they are 'hot' again rather than selling for cheap. Ebay is definitely the best way to determine actual value by seeing what similar items have gone for.
I have a few Barry Bonds baseball cards I am pretty sure will get more valuable if I don't sell them just yet, but I should have sold the Mark McGwire ones before Bonds broke his season home run record. (Of course since they are both in the big steroid scandal that might also affect the value)
If I remember right the comic book fad is kind of slumping right now but if you have ones that are always in demand (Star Wars, or anything with a movie tie-in like Xmen) you could still find a buyer. If not just sit on them until they come back around in popularity.

I was looking at the prices on ebay and that's when I got excited. Most of my stuff is late 80's early 90's but I also 'followed' some of the artists. So I have almost all of the Todd McFarlane's when he was drawing the Amazing Spiderman (and I have a rare Batman where he did the cover) and I have all of Jim Lee's work in the Punisher series. And a ton of X-Men and Batman so we'll see. The only ones that stuck out to me as having any real value are the McFarlane Spiderman books.

Heh.

I have a MASSIVE collection of 2000AD comics (do you get them in the US? Judge Dredd the movie starred Stallone so I'm guessing you've at least heard of it). I have pretty much every issue from around 180 (circa 1980-ish) through to 900 odd. Plus ... a load of annuals, specials, graphic novels, one-off's etc etc.

Worth quite a bit now from what I know (certainly £1000+ as a full collection) but I'd need to sell them off in small lots to maximise the value I think.

I'll get round to it one day. In the meantime they can just sit there gaining value .... :)

2000AD-

I have a few of those Judge Dredd books...and before the Stallion of Italian descent made the flick, but I know that the ones I have wouldn't be worth much.
