Complete change in behaviour.......??!

Big Winston

I have noticed lately that Big Winston my Black Albino cornsnake is very tetchy of late.

When I first had him he was always hiding in his cave, he now is all around his tank often headbutting the grill that covers it and keeps headbutting the glass like a deluded baffoon.

Now whilst I am happy he is always out of his hide (Makes for amusing viewing at times) I am quite concerned about his poor little head.

He appears to be trying to escape??! Is this normal?

When I take him out of his tank I let him have the run of my bedroom, I dont stop him from going anywhere (Apart from near the electrical source) but when I go to put him back he always trys to avoid going in.

Not only that when I first had him when I fed him I would put him in another tank and offer his f/t pinks to him and he would take them gently and swallow. No striking, no constricting nothing, nada.

He has now started striking the f/t mice and constricting them for a little while before swallowing. Again no problems but complete change in behaviour.

Finally he has now started to get really moody with me when taking him out of his tank for a roam. If I approach the glass he rears up at me and even more so if i take the lid of the tank to handle him. He has not bit me yet as I leave him be if he looks too moody and he slithers to his little cave.

Whilst I understand all of the about is relatively normal snake behaviour I am concerned for his well being as its a complete change in his behavioural pattern.

Am I doing somthing wrong?
Is there anything I can do to give him a better quality of life?

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert by any means, but I've read posts similar to this and from what I can tell it's the season for "moody" male snakes. ;)

So I assume if you just give it some time, he'll return to his less "tetchy" self!

I'm no Expert, But i have been Researching and I have Owned a Corn for about five or six months now, There are many things that could be causing your snakes behaviour to change,

1) Its The Time of The Year That Males go Crazy,
2) Something around his tank is annoying him,
3) Maybe he can see his reflection in the glass and that may be why he's rubbing,
4) He needs to shed, but his skin is too dry to come off, this may result in "Noserubbing" In that case he would need a Moist Hide,

There all the Reasons i can think of, But to me he sounds like he's a typical corn lol, unless there really settled there always trying to escape, Damien {my Corn} Was doing this at first, but now he's really settled, I even forgot to close his Viv door for about 4 hours this morning and he didn't even leave lol.

Goodluck! : ) {George}

Cheers for the replies.

I know he aint shedding just yet as he only shed a little over a week ago, as for seeing his little reflection, it sounds pretty plausible! I have a similar reaction when I look at myself in the mirror! lol.

I think he is ok, I have checked him over for little beasties, ticks and other nastys and there are none.

I think he just likes to come out and play!
