Constricting

Last night I fed Frank. I introduced a f/t mouse using a pair of tongs. He saw it and then turned the other way at first. This surprised me, since he usually goes right for the mouse. So anyway, I touched the mouse's nose gently to the side of Frank's neck to get his attention. It worked . . . he turned and grabbed that mouse so quickly that I couldn't even follow his motion and he constricted it! I've never seen a corn constrict a dead mouse before. It was pretty interesting to see really. I guess it's only because I tapped him with it, probably. Anyone else's corn ever constrict their f/t prey? I was just curious is all. :D

Minbe jsut started constricting...

The very 1st tome i fed him was two live fuzzies (i never fed live again after that). And we i fed f/t i would put them in front of him so he could get it so he would never constrict. i used tongs and moved the mice and he wouldnt constrict. Now that i moved up to igger mice he does it. It is kinda sloppy tho he needs some practice lol:D

I forgot to say what he normally does. Normally, he either strikes at the mouse, then I let go with the tongs, and he proceeds to eat; or, he carefully inspects the mouse while I hold it with the tongs, then bites it at one end, and I let go. This time he pulled it right out of the tongs and constricted all in one motion. :)

Several of my corns do the opposite, when fed live pinkies they don't bother constricting, they just lie there and placidly start eating the hapless, squirming, squeaking meals.

constricting

almost all of my corns just slowly start eating the pinkies. i have a couple that will touch the tip of their heads to the pinkies and then all of a sudden do a little half strike and start eating. and then, my smallest hatchling, a little ghost named peyton, thinks he's the biggest bad ass in the world! he has never tried to bite me or another human ever, but if you put a pinky in his feeding tank, he slowly tightens into position, strikes and wraps up the dead pinky like he's just conquered the biggest most dangerous live mouse ever.:D it's so cute. he's definately my favorite corn to watch feed.

All depends on the snakes personality...

Most of mine are aggressive feeders and when I dangle the mouse in front of them, they constrict it until they release and eat it.

Others, take it so gently, I basically set it in their mouths. Like the are taking it to be polite.

Sometimes it frustrates me when the constrict it and then leave it. But, that rarely happens.
