Cooling down?

I have a little problem(?) in my tank with the heating and cooling. I have no issues getting the tank to the right heat, but I don't seem to be able to get to the mid 70F's for the cooler side of the tank. My snake just ends up burrying herself down into the substrate. I was wondering if anyone could help me find a way to get the cool side actually COOL!

Thanks.

What are you using to heat your tank? A UTH, or some sort of heat bulb? They really don't *need* a temperature gradient, though they do prefer it.

I'm using a UTH and a 40watt SunGlo bulb during the day but I switch to a 25watt NightGlo bulb for overnight.

So how hot is it on the hot side? Do you have a temperature probe? Because if it's 82-85 over there, then I wouldn't worry about how cool the other side is. Your snake should be just fine. If someone else thinks differently, then they can post too.

I'd disagree that they don't need a heat gradient - it is preferable if you can manage it, but some folks in warmer places have trouble sustaining it.

I'd lose the lamp and just rely on the UTH.

I ran into the same problem you have, it's just too warm here in socal to get a cool side, so I let the whole tank warm up to 85 during the day, it's even peaked at 90 for a couple hours, and my snake is fine, although it does seem hungry after 5-6 days rather than a full week.

well i read on here and many other sites that babies are suppose to be in the 85-90 range and adult corns are suppose to be in the 80-85 range, since you feed babies every 5-6 days compared to the adult 7-? days. I have a juvinille and i'm feeding her every 5 days so i'm trying to get into the 85-90 range. Correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks
