corn for bedding?

I have heard of people using corn, as in the corn you feed cows, as bedding for their corn snake(sounds appropriate ;) ). I was also told it's safe to feed them with corn as bedding because it's safe to ingest. :shrugs: Has anyone done this? Seems a whole lot cheaper if it works(besides the obvious jokes that could be made about my corn in corn :grin01: ).

I've looked and I can't find the site I saw it on, but I know I saw it on a website a few days ago as well. I can't remember what exactly I was searching for that brought it up. I've seen a lot about corn cob bedding, but I'm quite sure it was regular corn they were talking about...Wouldn't see it as being absorbent, though... :nope:

I've seen corn cob bedding, it's supposed to be good for odor control but tends to grow mold. It is not cheaper than aspen shavings, quite a bit more expensive actually.

I imagine impaction could still be an issue, not sure how well a snake would digest corn cob...

Corn is a complex carbohydrate, AKA, SUGAR. Sugar feeds bacteria. Bacteria thrives in temps below 95 degrees. An entire substrate of corn is like housing a snake on a plate of food for bacteria. I wouldn't do it.
