corn or rat snake? help?

had our gorgeous orange corn snake for six months now, first reptile ever. bought another `corn` black and white from a pet shop. been told by a couple of people that it may be a rat snake, it`s only ten inches long and has same type of markings as our corn snake. how can i tell if it`s a rat snake and whats the main differences. our corn is beautiful and placid and an escapee sliding loose in the house at the moment. missing week`s then came back for 48 hrs and escaped again ( i know i need a more secure lid for viv ). the black and white one is more eratic and unsettled and just not the same. any ideas guys?

Not too sure. It would help a lot If you could post a picture of him/her. Normal Corns are also called red rat snakes so maybe that was what that other person was thinking of, but I really cant help you unless I see a pick.

A black rat baby looks like an anery corn but has a black stripe from the eye to the hinge of the jaw. A baby anery corn would have a stripe that extends past the jaw onto the neck.

If it is a black rat, it will get more black with each shed. Baby rats are ussually very fiesty but baby corns can be as well.

If it was sold as a corn it probably is.

Also, black and grey rats tend to have larger, light-colored eyes.
