Corn rattle

 After feeding my Corn last week, I was cleaning some stuff up and heard this odd rattling sound from his feeding den. So I stopped what I was doing and watched him eat for a while. He had the pinky about half way down, and the crazy bastard started rattling his tail like a freakin' rattle snake. I just thought this was weird and was wondering if anyone else had seen this before

Happens all the time with young snakes when they feel threatened. Even older corns may do this. When a corn is feeding, it is a very vulnerable time for them, and any movement around them may elicit this response.

Just had my adult Okeetee do that this evening at feeding time. Amusing and noisy!

I agree. When you first hear a snake do it, it's kind of alarming. After you get used to it, it's kind of cool. When the adults do it, it's even cooler. My young Bairdi rats are master rattlers, despite the fact that they are completely unaggressive. They'll rattle in your hand, which is especially cool (if you're twisted, like me). ;)

After I give my Lavender a rat pink she rattles her tail against the side of the Sterilite when I move around the room. Now I just look at her and say, "yeah, you so tough", and cover her with a rag to give her a sense of security.

LoL maybe we will leave that comment alone haha.

Happens often though, can't blame them...if something huge came into my room I would throw a hissy fit too =)

My adult okeetee phase rattles his tail like crazy! Always has done! But he's a grumpy sod! lol It does sound nice though! But I don't want to stick my hand in there when he's in one of his foul moods! lol

whew

OK good, I'm glad it is a normal thing they do. My corn is such a docile sweety he has never struck at me or even looked like it might. maybe I'll just not feed him in such an open place any more. I was unsure how to interperet the rattling.

Maybe interesting for you.

In our german forum the admin posted a nice videoclip of an very angry female adult caramel making the rattlesnake. Simply click on the link "Gina is pissed!". turn your sound on  .
