wow that's a great composite material I may consider switching just because I like the idea of being able to see burrows that the snakes make this is really cool.

Would it be possible to see a photo of the whole tank? I used to keep gerbils in a big tank with soil to burrow in, it was great fun!

So cute! Did he eventually pull the rest of his tail in? I love it when they have secret burrows all over.

What an excellent set-up! No good for people who like to get their snakes out all the time, but great for watching your pet doing what comes naturally!

Thank you. To me this enclosure is small im thinking of building a custom enclosure for him. But we will see what happens. And hes no always burrowed, he basks constantly and hides under his bark.

very neat!
(not to go off topic) but your little tortoise is adorable!!
I plan on having a tort of my own one of these days.. just such cute creatures.

What is the substrate exactly? Did you get it from outside or a garden store? I like the way it looks, I'd love to get some.

Im using a bio-active substrate. mixture between childrens washed play sand and topsoil. Both can be found at Homedepot. You can also dig up your own soil from your yard.

There's a really good book about building naturalistic vivs for snakes, called The Art of Keeping Snakes. It's good anyway, even if you don't plan on keeping them like that.

If you buy topsoil, make sure you get the good, expensive kind. I found out while building tortoise burrows that the cheap huge bags contain all kinds of waste like glass, etc.
