corn snake, rosy boa, or other?

You shouldn't need to keep a ball in a 40-50 gallon tank. A 30 gallon should be fine.

My yearling corn is about 2.5 feet long and I'm keeping him in a 10 gallon. It's just fine for now, but in a few months, I see potential need for an upgrade.

I disagree that a BP would be fine in a 30, I wouldn't put it in anything less than a 40 gallon breeder tank. My BP is 4-5ft and quite thick and is in a 4ft x 2ft bin and that still seems small for him. My BP goes on a fast in October and won't eat again till June without losing weight. The fasting is what I don't like about BPs other then that they are great.

I think a rosy is a great choice (however I'd go with a corn of course!).

Remember, if you want a snake for handling, a ball is not the choice! Not that it isn't safe necessarily, but unlike most corns and rosies (among others) who seem to enjoy the handling time, it really stresses out ball pythons in general, although obviously some individuals may be different.

I have never had a BP that has shown any signs of stress from being handled, besides maybe a hatchling not used to being handled but that's the same with any hatchling snake. BPs are pretty easy going and relaxed. I'd rather handled my BPs then my corns, not that I don't love my corns they are just quick sometimes and you have to keep a good eye on them or they get themselves in trouble lol.
