Couple of questions...

So, I have a 20 L tank setup with UTH / thermostat. I ditched the suction cup that the thermostat probe came with since I knew it needed to be on the glass to get an accurate temp. My little guy likes to tunnel through the aspen & occasionally move things, so I'm wondering what is the best way to anchor my thermostat probe? I didn't want to use too harsh of an adhesive (ie foil tape, duct tape) because I don't want him to get stuck to it. What do I do??

Here's my other one... I put a whole bag of aspen (5 quarts I believe) in the 20 gal long tank. Is that overkill? It seems to be at least 3" of substrate depth.

I use hot glue for EVERYTHING!! ... BUT I have heard some people mention a blob if clear caulk and after it sets cut a slit in it and slip the wire into it.

Oh, excellent ideas! Thank you. Now where is that lousy hot glue gun... I always find it when I don't need it :p

Oh as for the aspen ... um I usually put in enough to cover the snake by 1/2 inch or so ... that way they can tunnel if they want. I have a few on paper towels right now and they tunnel too LMAO

I think I'm going to put less in next time...I have to dig forever to find him. How likely is it that there is going to be poop underneath the surface? He won't come out :p

It's kind of off topic, but since you're setting up a new viv and hot glue was mentioned, it's a nifty way to smooth off any sharp spots you find on artifical plants or other viv decor.

I use blue tack to secure my probes. It's non-toxic and you can remove it to clean the tank and then just re-stick it when you are done. As long as the snake doesn't hit it goin full bore run away speed they tend to stay in place well. It works really well to help hold wires from probes in place. A little bit at the top, middle, and on the bottom keeps the wires nice and clean looking. Great stuff.

Ah, didn't think of that. I do have some pointy bits at the end of his fake vine, I tried my best to twist them up but I'll glue the ends to make sure he doesn't stab himself. Thanks!

Where would one find blu-tack (ie which section of the hardware store)?

I ordered mine from Amazon. You can get it other places as well. They sell a knock off at Wal-mart in the stationary section. I'm pretty sure it's the same chemical make-up but I used the brand name since that's what was recommended to me. Hope this helps.

I picked up some blu-tack last night, and it is working out excellently. No more snakey moving the probe under the warm hide!
