Is crumbly a word? Any way, I feed my male amel tonight and he pooed right after he ate and the urates were crumbly or grainy instead of a single mass. The poo itself looked fine and it didn't smell particularly bad, not that it smelled good either. But it there was a lot of water too, so at least he is drinking enough. My thoughts are that he might have some infection that is preventing the absorbtion of water, but I would like to here some advice from here. I don't have any pictures of it because it got flushed. I do plan on taking him to the vet with a fecal sample next week. Thanks for any opinions.
 
This should not pass as vet or supremely experienced info, but back soon after I got my first corn I had the experience of being pooped on. There was the dark portion, a yellowish-white liquid, and some white portions that for a lack of a better description I would say were "crumbly".
I didn't notice the white "crumbly" parts being particularly hard. They were solids but seemed pretty moist along with the rest of it.

Have you ever experienced seeing fresh poo before? And was it different from this time?

So, are you saying that a dark solid, a yellow-clear liquid, and a whitish semi-solid is a normal defication?? B/c that is what my snake does 2-3 days after he eats. And it seems to happen on me when I am handling him...............

I can say that, in my experience, what you described is what I have come to expect from my snakes.
 
My other snakes have been in brumation, so its been a while since I have had another poo to look at. But with them the urates are more of a single, almost gellatin like mass. Whereas Beefcake (my snake) urates seem seperated, crumbly or like granules. I had a bearded dragon for a while and his was a solid chunk of urates, but snake poo is a little different so its hard to compare the two together. And there is plenty of the liquid the surrounds the whole thing. I will try and get a picture next time, I am getting married this week so it might have to wait. :crazy02:
Another thought, could imagine talking about poo like this in another setting. Standing by the water cooller at work " So my poo last night kinda looked like..." :grin01: lol
 
Hmmm...maybe a fecal test is in order. I can't say for sure. Maybe someone else can offer some thoughts.

Along with the other stuff mentioned...dark solid with clear liquidy stuff I always find some sort of dusty or powdery light beige or even slightly green tinged stuff when I clean the viv. :puke01: Ivory is beautiful and healthy and this is normal pooh for her. Everyone poops and not everyones looks the same. I guess what I am saying is that I wouldn't worry much, just keep a close eye for any drastic changes from what you normally see in your unique animals pooh. As time goes by you will be better able to judge what is abnormal for your particular snake.
 
Uh oh

I was handling Beefcake earlier and I noticed a small lump on his side a few inches above his vent :shrugs: . I not sure of snakes anatomy, is that where the kidneys are? I hope its nothing serious, but with the urate thing I can't help but think kidneys, perhaps parasites. I don't think that its a fat growth because he's kinda skinny. He was one of the adoptions I took in and I have been trying to put weight on him. He is definetly going to the vet now. Any suggestions on what I should have the vet look for?
