Crush is on the run...

Holy $hit...he is missing.
I don't know how he got out, I put him right back in his tank after I took the pics above...and that was at like 2pm yesterday...
I didn't put the clips back on, but there was a binder with about 200 pages of paper in it, and a critter-keeper with two adult mice in it on top of his cage....
He is just 22 grams?!?! For the life of me I can't figure out how he escaped.
I have looked high and low and in every nook and cranny I can think of, and cannot find him. I sifted through the aspen in his tank about 5 zillion times, with no luck. I am out of ideas...and very upset and bewildered. Any advice?:awcrap:

for a easy trap put two strips of tape down a few inches apart like along the wall or dresser he will get stuck to it, put some warm water where the tape is and it will loosen. GOOD LUCK and I hope you find your snake

Oh, wow! I hope you find him! Those little snakies can be tricky...

If you have a background in the cage, did you check behind it? I thought my anery girl had escaped several times the day I moved her into an exo-terra terrarium, but she had just gotten behind the background... As well as several times she just sort of squished herself into the crack between the lid and the background. Check inside the binder on top of the cage, for that matter! Set traps in the room, make sure all doors in and out stay shut, and, if you can, put flour down along the walls and doorways so you can look for tracks and get an idea of where he is. Since you say you haven't seen him since yesterday, it may be a good idea to set traps through the entire house, to be safe..

I can't even begin to imagine how terrible you must feel--I have yet to actually lose someone (and I really hope I never do!). Good luck finding him!

Ugh that is the worst feeling! Is were he escaped in a closed room? or would he have access to the whole house? If he's in your bedroom you could but a bunch of plastic shopping bags on the ground, so if he crawls in or around one you would be able to hear him. look around places that may be a little warmer than others, especially if you're house is on the cooler side..

Hope you find him soon!

I'd also consider a putting a mouse inside a plastic water bottle over night and leave it out for him, just to see if he's in the area.

When you sifted though the aspen, did you remove any of it? I have had a few scares with my little Normal. I thought she got out (don't know how she would manage with six clips on top of her tank, though) because when I sifted though the aspen, I didn't see her. I finally found her but picking up handfuls of aspen and putting them in another tub. I finally found her in the bottom corner of the tank. Every time I had moved the shavings, she snuck along with them!

I hope your baby turns up soon!

Kachine Kolgon

Oh Crap Josh! Not you, too! I would check that tank he was in a couple more times. I thought my normal got lost, but the little sucker was clinging to the inside top of, one of the hides. Set out tape traps, using masking tape. Look inside anything that may be warm!

I really hope you find him,

Wayne

Ya I have completely removed everything from his tank like 5 times...including taking the Aspen out in handfuls and sifting through it in small amounts in another tub...I am at my moms with Lucy for the night, so the search will continue tomorrow.

I hate it when that happens. One escapee I had (a Petco normal) just reappeared in the bathroom, about 4 feet from his viv. And one (a Petco anery) the neighbors caught and released(!!!), of all things. Better than a violent death.
If it was one of my prize favorite breeder-shipped babies...I would not even be telling anyone about it. Just throwing up and going about the business of being a nervous wreck.
I really like the idea (not my own) that I have heard others use of putting toothpicks across doorways, and otherwise strategically located. Or even a little dusting of flour (or an inert/nonharmful) powder. Or even a little scotch tape placed across doorways and otherwise strategically placed.

^Fingers and toes crossed here too, Josh! I had one that was lost for over a week. Put water out and don't give up hope!

Aw Lori - there ya go, flirtin' with all the young guys again. :grin01:

Best of luck finding Crush, Josh!

Dale

Must be a hoosier thing! When are you moving here again? ;)

Josh, pay no attention to the old guy I flirt with. He just told me earlier that he's never lost a snake. Some people are just soooo superior!

When you're elected President of The Gilbert Gottfried Fan Club.

Well, there is that. :sidestep:

Lol you two!

I had a spare heat pad so I plugged it in in the hallway....and dropped the house temp. a couple to degrees to about 68 instead of 72 (where it is normally set) and I have been keeping an eye out. At night I set a pinkie down on the heat pad...but no luck so far.
The problem is we are redoing some parts of the house, so the baseboards have been torn up along the bottom of the walls and there are plenty of places for a snake his size to squeeze into.
I still have high hopes, and am keeping an eye out for when he gets hungry and hopefully shows himself...

Thanks all of you :D
-Josh

Put a hide next to the mat, too! Nanci's advice worked well for mine that was on the run for over a week. I waited until dark, then every half hour or so I'd flip on the light. There he was, right in the middle of the floor.

Good luck, I know the angst you're feeling!

Thank you...I just wish I had some more spare cash to pick up a few more heat pads and such...but with limited funds I have limited buying ability :-/

But my house isn't huge...and assuming he hasn't gotten lost in the walls due to the remodeling, I hope to see him soon...

What a bummer man.
I can't believe I missed this thread up until just now...
I'm sorry to hear that Crush is having a little adventure without you.
Surely he will show up sooner or later. (Hopefully sooner than later.)

Best of luck, man.
Keep your chin up.

Hey Josh, I would try a couple of tape traps, around things that have their own heat, like the fridge and stuff. You can also put them along the walls and by some of the holes, where the construction is going on. Use the painters masking tape. It is less sticky, so it won't hurt him, but he will still tangle and be waiting for you in the morn.

Good Luck Man and I really hope this turns around for you. It really sucks, when you have one on the run.
