Crypto scare...(dead pics)

Well, it has been a rough spring for me and my snakes. One passed away in the early spring, he didn't even make it past his one year quarantine. The other has been having diarrhea issues for a month and passed away this morning, just shy of her vet visit.

She was a very tempermental great basins albino gopher snake. I loved her anyways, temper and all. For the past four weeks she has been having abnormal feces that look like this

She had some feces stuck to her cloaca so I soaked her and while she was in there she pooped out some stuff that looks like she musked with a bit of urates, almost looks like lung butter, like when you have a lung infection. (I did watch it come out of her butt)

There was also an undigested poo or a very digested regurge in her tank two weeks ago.I was not sure so I followed the protocal for a regurge and waited ten days to feed a small meal. She had 2 poops within the first 30 hours and a regurge four days after I fed her. She died shortly after the regurge. I wasn't sure if it was one but I picked it apart. Uuugh! :nope: All pink inside.

I have had her for a over a year and she was moved with my other snakes after her quarantine. I am very worried that it might be something that they can all catch. She had her seperate feeding container and was never out with the other snakes. I have her body in two freezer bags on ice in a container. I hope that the vet can still use the remains for testing since she is not frozen. I am so worried it might be crypto.

In this case I do not think that the dark spot is her spleen. Looks like rot...

I just had to vent or get some ideas of what it could be. Its 6:60 in the morning and I cannot sleep...

I forgot to mention too that when the first abnormal poop showed up about a month ago, it smelt really really bad! Like someone puked in her cage. Then the same smell when she pooped in her container while I was soaking her.

So the vet basically told me everything I already know about crypto (thanks to the threads and links I have found on this site. He said that physical exams and multiple fecal smears are needed to see if the rest of my snakes are safe.

I have come to the conclusion that no pet store around here is ok to buy snakes from. I will not be getting a new one for a looooong time and when I do it will be from a reputable breeder.

No, I found her dead at 5 am and the vet office did not open until 8 am. I asked them to call me back as soon as they could because I had a body on ice but when he called me at 5 pm the body was already pretty ripe and the feces were getting too old. He told me to keep a lookout for anything out of place and that a regular physical with fecal smears is highly recommended.

She was doing so good and out of nowhere this. She was such a neat, pretty snake too...

That sounds like crypto but can be another bacteria as well. Very sorry for your loss that has to be hard:(

Well guys...UP next is Lily. She started showing signs of something off soon after I fed her last week.

Scattered poop spots.

I am calling the vet to set up an appointment for her. I'll be taking in a fresh stool sample as well. I just wish this wasn't happening.

I'm so sorry to hear your having to go through this. I hope you find out there is nothing wrong with Lily. Please keep us updated!

That's so scary. I'm sorry you are having troubles, and I hope they are resolved soon.
The dark spot may very well be her gall bladder. It's one of the first things to break down when an animal dies and it's easy to see on light colored snakes.

Thanks so much everyone! I am going to keep fighting this. I fed her and as soon as I get fresh feces I am taking it in for a fecal smear. I'll keep everyone posted.

The two spots on the shed are normal.

Good luck with the rest. A fresh fecal is probably going to help. Hopefully it will be good news and alleviate your nerves.
