Hey all-

How exactly do you cull your rodents? I'd assume there'd be many ways, CO2, neck breaking, etc. I am just interested in everyone's way of doing so...
 
I actually tried the co2 method but find cervical dislocation much quicker and easier for fuzzies crawlers and adults. Pinks I quick-freeze.
 
I use CO2 on everything. It works on pinks, just takes a bit longer. I find the pigmented pinks and peach fuzzies actually take the longest - longer than new pinkies do, at any rate - I tend to leave them for thirty minutes and that does the trick.

Freezing might be relatively humane for furless pinks, but it's inhumane for anything with fur.
 
I haven't got to that stage yet but it will either be co2 or a quick bash on the head...... :bang:
 
I'd hate to ask this, but does anyone have a how-to or better yet, pictures on how to preform cervical dislocation? I looked it up online and am not finding much...
 
I just found an image of a mouse being held down by the back of the neck with index and thumb. It was then taken by the base of the tail with the other hand. What happens next, do you pull the tail up quickly till the neck snaps, as if bending the mouse backwards?
 
lol, ur cool, i like ur curisosity! i also like killing mice altho ive never done it lol, i think instead of all this complicated stuff, eather drop them in a tub of water "and take a pic for me to see muhahaha" or snap there neck "and take a pic for me to see muhahaha"

please don't be so silly, if that's the sort of kicks you want there are plenty of videos on youtube for you to watch. I breed and cull mice for my snakes to eat, just as I grew up on a farm where free-range pigs were raised for slaughter and my dad shot rabbits for us to eat. I treat my feeders well while they're alive and kill them quickly with as little suffering as possible.
 
i'am sorry, i just dont like rats or mice, they smell and they bite and there just worthless, and drawning them is just as nasty as breaking there neck... but atleast drawning them makes there life flash before there eyes and they get to remember some good bits of there like, breaking there neck gives them no chance to say goodbye to the world.. muhahahaha

See this is where I get upset with people on the internet. You are from the UK, and there it is ILLEGAL to feed live prey because of the fact that people don't like them being killed by snakes. Im sure the government would LOVE To know that you are killing mice in in-humane ways like this.

Actually Ryan, it's legal if you can prove good reason for it and as long as it's not performed in public. But you're right that the sentiments expressed won't help herpetology with this country's bunny-hugging mentality. I'm sure not many people would take up the young man's suggestions as a good idea anyway
 
if you read the post, it clearly states... ive never done it, but its just a rat.. what about everytime you feed ur snakes? u have plenty of them.. it dont matter how the rat died or how old it was or if it had a family... u dont care... u feed it too ur snakes like i do.. so ur just as mean as i'am exept i dont like to see rodents have there neck broke, ive never killed a mice/rat or w/e but ive bread them in the past, and they bite, they smell, and there just not the kind of animal i would say is worth arguing over... so i'am not.. the good thing about this forum is ppl are allowed freedon of speach, and about the goverment, they dont care... they make thease laws to keep the silly ppl who make protests shut up, thats all.. all they care about is money, and ive never fed live to my snake, and i never will.. i would not risk them hurting my baby! so.. sorry if i affended you i hope u acsept my apoligy its just my own appinion..

Actually, there is a moderator for this forum, and continual posting that offends others can get you banned from here, which won't help in your start toa new hobby.
 
that was actually a long appoligy.. so yea... and its not my fault if my suggestion offends ppl, if you have a problem you could always pm me eh? so if i 'am right i did wrong and now i'am saying sorry for expressing my opinions if they hurt you, so if you have a problem with a 14 yr old saying hes sorry witch is quite rare, then ur just being a mood.

Yes I do care how the rodents that I feed my snakes were euthenized. I will refuse to support any breeder who does not use a humane method of killing there rodents. As a matter of fact, I don't feed my snakes live prey. I have a room with rodents, yes it stinks, and yes they bite; but it would never give me the rage to drown a rodent.

On this forum I would hope people would act there age. Hearing a 14 year old appologize is not rare.
.
Either way, Please don't practice those methods of euthenization on rodents that will be provided to your snake.

okay well i'am sorry and dimoindlil has pmed me, and ive said sorry, and i'am sorry to everyone i affended, i wont be doing any sort of drawning it was just a silly suggestion :/ dont try it at home!! and my breeding times are over, even if i still bread i would not kill them, dead there worth 40p from the petshop live there worth 3.40 from the petshop so if i ever breaded again id do it for money :p
