Daytona Pick up... sort of ;)

I so sorry..Imust have missed this!..
That Turtle is the sweetest looking little thing I have ever....seen today..;)

I have a big female RES who I am looking to rehome before snow hits us.
I rescued her and cleaned her up, fed her, and she is doing great! I may have a home lined up..but not sure....

I would love to see more of this guy..keep us posted. I love turtles sooo much!

~~'Manda:cheers:

KJUN! RELAX!!!

Like all my animals, Squirt will take trips into the classroom to see the zoo animals-- I mean students. ;) Is that law even still enforced? I have seen some really minute turtles at shows lately.

In any event... let's try and get this thread up to 10 pages.

I think I may watch TV with him. It is said that this calms reptiles down. I think The Nanny is the most often reccomended show, but I am pretty sure neither Squirt nor I would benefit from the Nanny. So I may just watch Seinfeld. Do you think Squirt will enjoy The Show About Nothing?

He is so cute, I love Mud turtles.

Mine thinks he is a snapping turtle, is your's snappy too? Also what kind of Mud turtle is he?

I think it's a little one.:sidestep:

Unfortunately, because of that, anyone who comes within a furlong of him is going to catch salmonella. :puke01: Either that or the turtle is going to burst into flame. :realhot: Or explode. :bomb: That's why The Feds don't want anyone coming anywhere near turtles under four inches - they're guaranteed to be lethal in several ways. :fullauto:

This has been your friendly neighborhood smilie attack. :crazy01:

On a more serious note, mud turtles are pretty nifty little beings!

I believe he is a three striped mud turtle. He is so small it is tough to ID him, but he has some striping along his shell.

I was looking in some of my field guides and I'd say he is a striped mud too. When I first got my eastern mud he was only 3/4s of an inch big and we had to put him under a microscope to figure out what he was lol. Three years later he is still only 2-2 1/2 inches.

LOL...Pure joke on my part playing on your no political humor. ;)

ANYWAY, to get serious, the law is still enforced, but pretty much only if the turtle is sold to a minor. Otherwise, there is no requirement to PROVE it is educational. The buyer just has to say, "Sure....um, I use it for that. Yep." That's it.

There is no law saying you can't own or have one under 4" - you just can't SELL it under 4" except to someone for those purposes. See? Lots of faucets to my humor.

 My thread has been posted for nearly an hour and NO ONE HAS RESPONDED!!! It's because all of you people are responding to the whining threads and not looking at my cute little turtle!! I had to respond to my own thread just so I wouldn't feel bad about myself! Look what you made me do!

DEAN!!! SUSAN!!!!

I demand a forum for whining posts so that MY EXTREMELY VALID POST won't go un-noticed!!! :devil01:

Lol! Lauren, you're such a riot! xD

OH MY GOSH IT'S SO CUTE. Squirt makes me go "Awwww!!" Congrats on the new addition! =)

WOW your tank set up looks alot like mine! My Musk turtle has a similar cage setup but in a 20G

I LURV Squirt. Sooooo cute.

Lauren - what grade do you teach? I teach HS science. My district is getting pretty anal about "pets" in the classroom, so I just tell them I use the fish, snake, and turtle for teaching ~rolls eyes~ I mean, come on, what's a science classroom without a few animals? Hello, biology = study of life ~LOL~

Wow, this is an excellent thread Lauren.
What a nice little mud turtle. Hard to believe that's a two year old. I never had the desire to keep a turtle but the tiny ones I find are always nice-looking, like everyone said, cute.
Thank you for posting, its nice generally chit-chatting with you.

I was initially going to use a 20L until I saw the size of him. A 20L seems like massive overkill for this little one. :)

I am sure it was! LMFAO My stinker will not reach his head out of the waters and grab earthworms of the end of my hemostats

LOL. My guy is pretty cool. He takes the turtle sticks, pinkies, Earthworms. And I have even caught some crayfish frozen them nd then he eats those!

I was thinking about gutloading some ghost shrimp for the turtles.. thought they might enjoy hunting those! Also considering the purchase of a trio of platy to live in the mud's tank and breed live baby feeders for him. :)

I teach mostly freshmen, 14 year olds. If I had it my way, I'd be teaching ONLY freshmen... older students have attitudes that really irritate me. The older they get, the worse it is... seniors are just awful.

I don't keep any animals in my classroom anymore, though at one time I had 300+ gallons of aquariums, three snakes, a turtle, several species of frogs and lizards and a few furry critters in my room. I moved to a different school last year and my classroom is tiny and has no counter space... so all my critters are here now, but travel with me to school quite often. Tomorrow, two of my best handleable snales are going in with me... the day after I'll be taking one of each class... i.e. reptiles, mammals, spiders... for "characteristics of life."

Thanks Alan! Sorry I missed this the first time around-- it's been hectic here today, with a sick cat, sick dog, snakes to feed, along with general household chores. Plus Tara is at work... she always knows just when to work. ;)

I am just the opposite. I love my 10th grade bio class and 11th/12th grade marine science, but my 9th grade physical science class gets on my nerves! They are too much like middle schoolers, all hormonal and immature ~shudders~ bad combo!

I'm going to take all my snakes in when we do genetics this year. I think it will really help engage them is a topic that can be a little abstract for them! I'm going to teach them how to make all the morphs and them have them propose pairings between the snakes and tell me the outcomes. This is the first year I am trying this and hope it works!

They love my little RES, though they always want to hold him, which he hates, he is pretty shy.
