Difference in Nolvasan and generic chlorhexadine?

Just wanted to be sure that the generic version of Nolvasan is fine to use to clean the tanks for our corns? Do I need to let it sit? Or Rinse? A local lady gave me quite a bit of the generic but I'm wondering if I need to go ahead and purchase the Nolvasan instead since I can get it relatively cheap ($14.99 locally)? Also how long does the mixture stay good once you've mixed the recommended amount with water?

Thanks So Much
Becky

No they are the same. So that it fine. In the medical field the most important thing is the contact time. So I would allow it to sit for a a little bit. Is it solution or scrub?

Chlorhex is chlorhex. It does come in different concentrations, so read the directions as to whether you should dilute 2 oz/ gal or 1 oz/gal (or whatever). The scrub has a detergent in it & is used for surgery prep (& costs more). The solution is what you want to clean your cages with.

I find that the diluted mix stays useful longer if you keep it in a dark bottle or a dark place.

Actually there is a difference between Nolvasan (chlorhexidine diacetate) and generic (chlorhexidine gluconate). Both are anti-bacterial and -fungal, but the generic chlorhex isn't anti-viral so costs a lot less.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Omni, do I necessarily need the anti viral that the Nolvasan offers? I don't mind spending the extra $ if its going to help our two corns from getting sick.

Thanks
