Different Viv setups

Hey guys,

Just a general question here, was interested in different viv setups and other peoples layouts, if there is anything they don't like etc.

Little Ness has Hemp with two hides a feeding and water bowl which he seemed very happy in.
We've just added a reptile plastic plant (see picture) and loves being under it, on it and around it!
Is this the same with others?

What do you guys think?
Any recommendations?

Cheers :)

It looks good! You really only need one waterbowl. The more ground room they have the better, if the second one is just for food you can put the mouse in the bowl, put it in the tank and remove it when he is done eating. The more ground cover the better, I love the plant you put in, any aquarium decorations are nice for corns!

How are you heating the enclosure? Heat lamps aren't recommended for corns, you need a UTH regulated by a thermostat. Probe thermometers on each side will help you keep the temps right. The UTH should go under one side of the viv covering about 1/3 of the bottom, and a probe directly over the UTH. Put a hide over the warm side and one on the cool side.

I also see that it is a wood enclosure, I am not sure how well UTHs work with wood, and if the bottom is wood you may have a problem with moisture.

Cheers for comment, the shallow one is just for good and will bear that mind about the taking it out and in thing.
Ness loves the plant as well!

The viv is heated using a heat mat under some vinyl, then hemp on top this is regulated by a thermostat, I have hidden them quite well lol. The lamp at the top is not a heat lamp as such (it's so low wattage so it's more a spot lamp that doesn't generate much heat) - I.e it's not the primary heat source.

I've got two thermometers one on each side, the hotter side is at between 30 and 28 (thermostatted).

What's your setup like?

Good, I'm glad you are using a UTH and it is working for you.

I have all mine in glass aquariums. I put a UTH taped to the underneath 1/3 of every viv, and have a probe thermometer in the viv over the UTH and the temp is set at 85-87°F, the top of the substrate is about 85°.

I have a hide on each side for the bigger guys, with larger branches or cactus skeletons. I have plants like yours all over the place, and a water dish at the cool end.

For the smaller ones I have two hides and also use toilet paper tubes flattened at one end, then pushed into the substrate and sprinkle some substrate in the tube. The littlest guys LOVE those. I have lots of different size aquarium plants in the smaller guys' tanks, the big guys just mow them down. Everyone has at least one hide that is like the one in your first pic on the left. I think they are ExoTerras, and I have them in all sizes. Snakes like to have something touching their sides and backs when in a hide, it makes them feel more secure.

I have one older lady who LOVES burrowing, so she gets 2-3" of substrate. She prefers it over any hide.

Everyone has stones, we have really cool river rocks in our home's landscaping, I collected a bunch, washed and boiled them and put them in the vivs. Everyone also has at least one piece of driftwood.

All my tanks are 20 gallons and up, except one 10 gallon I got with a rescue a few days ago.

I am waiting on a camera I bought to arrive, my old one died and with all the new rescues I need to catch up on photos!

Are the thermometers probe ones or the dial kind like on the wall?

The non digital ones aren't worth a darn, and it is the substrate you need regulated. If you don't already, replace the thermometers with digital probe ones, especially one on top of the middle of the UTH. This should be around 87°, you are right on with 28-30°.

I have one for each tank, the probe sitting on top of the glass above the UTH. Because the number of corns is growing I am going to also get a laser thermometer so I can be more thorough.
