disinfect?

Hi everyone! I have a question about cage cleaning. Is it a must to disinfect the cage and furnishings when you do a total cleaning? I used a 1 to 10 bleach and water solution, soaked everything for 15 min. and rinse rinse rinse rinse rinse and some things still have a bleach smell! Could I just wash everything in hot soapy water, which I do anyway before the bleach. Do I have to use bleach? Are there other products you would recommend that will safely disinfect? Thanks for any and all help :)

I'm not sure myself but here's what I do:

get the tank in the shower and rinse out the crusties with hot water from the shower head, and dump out in toilet.

start filling with hot water and about 2 or 3 drops of Dawn antibacterial.

Fill about a third of the way then scrub

rinse it out like crazy while scubbing

dry with paper towels or an old towel, to get all the water spots off

sit it out on the porch for awhle, preferably in the sun

Like I said, I'm not sure if this is correct either, but I would try to not use a lot of soaps or bleach

What I do is:

Use a one to ten bleach solution for my small hatchling tank. I scrub this around a bit and make sure any old bits of poop have come off. Then I completely rinse it out (several times) and dry it off. For my Melamine vivs I use a disinfectant spray.

When it comes to the furniture I just use hot soapy water with a tiny bit of reptile-safe disinfectant in it. I don't really like bleach but only because of the smell. In Britain we have something called Milton (not sure if you have it over there). It's used for babies' bottles and things and is really safe to use.
