I want to make a log hide from homemade clay but i dont know what i could use to mold the clay around to be able to bake it in the oven. I want to do it out of clay that way it can be wash when needed. Any ideas

pvc piping would work, but DO NOT bake it in the oven with the clay. PVC will offgas toxic fumes when heated. You merely use the pvc as a form.

On the safer side, if you can get your hands on some huge diameter bamboo (3-4 inch), it too could be used as a form. And could possibly be baked with the clay still around it.

A glass vase would also work, again only as a form.

Wax paper placed around any of these should make it easy to remove the clay.

i was wondering i am wanting to try and make my log from homemade clay would a wine bottle be ok or would that blow up in my oven????

How about a ball/wad of tin foil with parchment paper or wax paper over it to keep the clay smooth?? I would NOT put a glass wine bottle in my oven.....

Build it out of styrofoam, then coat it with grout. It can look incredibly realistic, and your imagination is the only limit. I've done this. It is a bit messy, and can be a project, depending on how fancy you get, but it ends up looking nice, and isn't expensive. Here's a link with lots of ideas to help explain:
