Do you think he is ready to eat two Pinkies?

OK, Kaa just shed, so I decided since he is half a week behind on eating, I would feed him. He ate the pinkie no problem, had it down past his mouth in less than 10 minutes. I fed him at about 2:32, Mouse was past his mouth by say 3:42, and the bump is already a good 5 inches down his body, so just sslightly more than halfway down. Should he be eating 2 pinkies now, he just seems to be moving things along more quickly now. He was pretty quick last time he ate too, but not that quick. Also, does anyone know where I can a get a scale to weigh him with? I haven't found one yet, and I would like one so I know when to move him up to the next sized mouse.
Thanks a lot!!!

If the prey is still leaving a lump I wouldn't say it's time to move up.
If it's hard to tell where the mouse actually is once it's moved down to the thickest part of your snake then yes it would most likely be safe to step it up.
I got my scale off of ebay but others get theres from walmart, staples etc.
You want to look for a good digital scale that weighs in grams, mine goes up to 2000g

OK, i'll leave him with what he is eating for now than, because you can easily tell exactly where the mouse is at the thickest part of his body. And Wal MArt, dgital scale? OK, does anyone know what section I am looking in for that? I was lost for an hour last time I went looking for snake stuff, LOL.

in the kitchen

:)I had found mine in the kitchen area for $30.00 Dollars It weights in ounces pounds and in grams up to 2 pounds or something like that cant remember the max weight.

10 minutes seems like a long time to me. My babies eat in about two minutes. The reason it stops where it does is because that is where the stomach is. Before that is the long esophagus. If you didn't know.

No, I didn't realize that, thanks for the lesson. This was the fastest I have seen him eat, it usually takes about 15 minutes or so from the time he first sniffs it until it is down his throat. This was a big improvement for him. I feed him a pinky every 4 days, but we skipped this sunday because I had noticed him shedding and didn't want to stress him. So, after he shed, I figured he was hungry and fed him. But, clearly I was jumping the gun with moving him to two pinkies. He's still only 10, maybe 12 inches still.

I think my scale is a postal scale----but it's really small for home use. It will measure in grams or ounces. It's about 4" x4". It's a little small, but very portable. I just tare a plastic tub and lid on it and weigh them that way. I have a snake that is over 600g and it didn't max out.

I think I paid $9.99 on sale at Ciruit City---you might also try one of the office stores for a postal scale.

Well some people do have monster corns that get up to 1000 or more grams so it's always best to try and get the biggest one you feel comfortable blowing your money on, lol.

OK, the little fellow is 13.25 grams, so he will be nearing the size for double pinks pretty soon. I guess I'd give him a month or two, right?

I just wanted to add that feeding every 4 days could be cutting it a bit close.
He might be better off at a 5 day schedule.
If he is frantically searching on day 3 for food you may just need to feed 2 pinkies every 5-7 days instead of one every 4 days.
Just a thought:)

He usually starts hunting and climbing his tank walls late on the 4th day. Sometimes it is every 4 days, sometimes I wait till the 5th day. I thought 4 days might be close too, but that plan thing said every 4-5 days, so...

Our guy is always hunting and climbling, even right after he eats. The hunting and climbibg does not necessarily mean they are NEEDING to eat. They are looking for ways to get our and roam around. It is good exercise:)

In the wild they would need to start hunting before really necessary because it could take them a while to find, isolate and eat their next meal.(IMO)

If you can see a fairly visible bulge at the mid body area keep him on the same schedule...one pinky every 5 days. If it is barely noticable you could bump up to 2 pinkies. You just want to be careful so he does not regurge.

If you order your mice most places...Rodent Pro and I think The Mouse Factory have small meium and large pinkies...you could bump up to a bigger pinky if he is on the border.

Also, look for poos in the enclosure. They should poo before their next meal I believe...someone correct me here if that is not the case.

Any pictures?

He actually usually poos right after he eats, in his eating inclosure. He actaully hasn't ever gone in his cage but twice. Now, here is my new question. Because the pinks I got this round were almost half the size of what he has been eating, I gave him two. I just fed him about 3 hours ago, he had them down in 1-2 minutes, which is very quick for him, he usually takes his time, and the bump is now hardly visible. I mean, you can still tell it is there, but it is usually much bigger at this time.
