Can't the poll be closed? As you'd close a thread when needs be? I mean, personally, it doesn't really bother me too terribly much. Though some of them can get annoying - especially when the poll is completely redundant or time sensitive.

Well, if I started locking threads just because I find them annoying, we'd probably see A LOT of threads disappear...
