Does anyone use Carefresh?

I started out with ReptiBark but read so much about the popularity of Aspen that at last total cleaning I decided to give it a try. I bought a bag from the same herp store that my snake came from. What a nightmare! The stuff was crawling with mites! I saw them all over the water bowl AFTER I put my snake back in the cage. So I dumped all of that and cleaned everything all over again. I haven't seen any on my snake but I'm on alert. I'm trying Carefresh now and so far I love it. My corn can burrow in it and it is just as easy to spot clean as anything else I've tried. My only corncern (hee-hee) is if it will be too drying and cause problems with shedding. In that case I plan to make a humid hide.
Has anyone else used Carefresh and if so what is your opinion of it? Thanks.

I've used it, am still using it in a couple of cages, but yes it does tend to keep things drier than aspen does. I would definitely keep a humid hide in the cage if you decide to keep using it.

I've never used it but I just had to say that I think it looks horrible. Sorry, I just had to say it, no offense intended :D. However, I have heard some very good things about it so keep asking.:).

I use it

I've used it since I first got me snakes, a little over a year ago. No, it's not pretty. But it works great. As far as causing any problems with dry skin, I don't know since it's all I've used. I use a spray/mist bottle, and pretty much spray them all down anyways once in awhile and even more often when they look in shed (they love it). I also throw a dark wet towel on the top-it seems to help. You can also get some CareFresh and get it all wet and sqeeze it into a ball and toss it into the hide box. Works great.

But here's the thing: I'm about to switch to aspen because....well....because everyone else does. But then I got to thinking (hate it when that happens), I DON"T want my apartment smelling like wood, stale, wet or otherwise. Besides, at the store I go to, it (CareFresh) is a little cheaper than aspen (by about 1.50US). Like I says, it's not pretty but if it soaks up odors better than most other choices, I'll buy it. Besides, I have tons of 0.5 inch bedrock/sandstone up here. I wash it and bake it then use it for snake tanks....I lay half the tank with it - it makes great hide den and looks cool..
So I'm just going to try aspen in the Ball Pythons tank...

Yeah! I agree! I thought I was the only one who thought it looks like crap. :)

Trying buying your Aspen from a Walmart, Target, or Kmart, stores like that.. It is juss as cheap, if not cheaper, and chances are no mites would have ever came in contact with it..

I use carefresh and LOVE it! To keep the humidity up for shedding i just get my reptile mister and mist the substrate lightly. Or i put a damp paper towel on top of the hide. They burrow allot in it too.

Thanks

Thanks for all the help! I think I will stick with the Carefresh for now. I have never seen my snake burrow until today. When I looked in on him this morning I could see through the tank that he was fully buried in the stuff! I had to reassure my son that "Jeff" could still breath under there. I really don't mind the look of the Carefresh, and besides, I hate doing things just because everyone else does:) I will keep an eye on the humidity though. Thanks again ya'll.
