Thought I'd pass on a mistake in weighing snakes. I have these 2 feeding boxes that are identical. When I first got my scale, I weighed one of the empty boxes with lid, I put the snake in and took another reading. I subtracted the weight of box only from snake in box to determine the weight. Sounds fair right. Today I discovered that depending on which lid goes on which box, there is an up to 11 gram difference! This explains why my Blizzard lost 5 grams between feedings! She actually has gained 30 grams over 6 weeks! I have sinced marked both boxes with their corresponding lids and noted the weight on the underside. Just thought I'd ramble about my moron moment :grin01: :wavey:

Time to get a scale that zero's out :grin01:
It does have a tare function, but I can't seem to get the hang of it. the power seems to go off to soon for my taste (a battery conserving feature) :shrugs:

Interesting that two similar lids would be so radically different on weights.

Thankfully my scale has an AC adapter to it, and I don't have to use the battery much...ergo the Tare feature works just dandy.

I've also found on mine, if you put the box you're going go use on the scale before you turn it on, and then turn it on when the box/lid is on there...it automatically tares itself. So you may try that. I found that out by accident. =P

Damn, with all this talk, I think I need to get a scale myself. How big and to what capacity would I need?

I've been looking everywhere for a better scale, got mine at a second hand store and its kinda wonky LOL. Walmart never has any that do grams, only kgs, and Treasure's not quite there yet =P The vets are getting tired of me bring in the snakes (they're scared of them LOL) Hunter is getting close to 300, I think (at school the paper is at home ~,~) and Treasure is at 345 =) Anyone suggest any place online that sells decently priced good scales? All the ones I have found were around $100 plus taxes, border fees, and the good old currency rate... AKA around $250 by the time I would have it. (border fees are getting close to $100 ~,~ I bought a ring that weighed 25g and cost $75 border fee :eek1: )

Boy it must be hell to live in Canada...everything is expensive as heck.

Try eBay. I got mine off of there for $10 US, and they even shipped to Canada.

Ohhh never thought of Ebay hehe.. skip the crummy border taxes! Yay! Get it sent to the house instead of dad's office hehe. Thanks Tac =)
