well, my snake shed his skin today and hadn't shed the end of his tail, so i went down stairs to a sink to get it off and it came off fine, my snake seemed intent on going around my neck so i allowed him to do so, next thing i know he'd slithered off my shoulder and hit the hard floor. I immediately picked him back up and paniced a bit because i heard him hit the floor. Any way i checked him over and couldn't see any damage so i put him back in his tank. I went to see him later in the day and he still seemed ok. But i was just wondering if i should keep a closer eye on him for the next few days or would he show some signs immediately if he'd hurt himself internally?

I wouldnt worry too much. Im sure snakes dont have pillows to fall on in the wild ;)

I had a worse incident with one of my biggest boa girls, she was sitting on the back of a friends computer chair when he suddenly swung round and she flew half way accross the room and landed on his adult great dane LMAO... She was perfectly fine but the dog was in shock for weeks.

thanks for the advice! that must have been a pretty big swing to fling a boa half way across the room lol

LOL it was a swivel leather chair and she was barley perched on the back... It was quite hilarious yet worrying.

But you just have to remember that they are not pampered and protected when swinging from tree canopys in the wild!

yeah i know but i just sort of went into a panic frenzy when he hit the ground with such a thump lol

Ack If you are really concerned have him out and run your hand all the way along his body. If you reach a bit thats sore im sure he will try to squirm away.

But really, I wouldn't worry :p

okey doke, like i said ive had him out and i can't find anything wrong so he should be ok, but it's the first time i dropped him so i wasn't sure if i whould be worrying!

One of my new '06's believes is a flying snake.
Have you ever had a snake leap out of your hand? not slither out but actually fling it's self up in the air and launch it's self out of your hand?
Anyway, It's done this about 3 times now but does have the safety of carpet to land on.
For the most part it hurts an animal to fall a distance about the same that it would hurt you. So it probably was quite unpleasant for the snake, no long term injury is to be expected.

yeah i checked my corn snake today and he's fine, yeah my snake used to do that when i first got him, he'd coil himself up with out you noticing and next minute you know he's making a bid for freedom, i didn't know much about snakes then and i thought he'd turned suicidal lol, he doesn't do it any more with me but if my friends or my mum picks him up he does it to them, so i guess it must be when he doesn't recognise them.

I watched a PBS Nature program on snakes this morning that I downloaded, and in it was a corn that was climbing a tree to get at a birdsnest in the trunk. The resident woodpecker had pecked all around it's nesthole and sap was oozing from the tree. As soon as the corn touched the sap it fell as it irritates between the scales. The snake had quite a fall and seemed unharmed.
I know there is a chance that maybe there could be something wrong, and I hope not, but I suppose I just wanted to tell someone of what a good program I'd seen.

thought i'd give an update. A week on and he's fine, nothing like a scratch or bump on him he's eaten and has been his usual self, hiding under his water bowl all day lol. So yeah he's fine and thanks you guys for helping me with my worries!
