alright so i asked about a month or so ago what i can do about my snakes dry skin and the suggestions were either moist towel or moss. well i havn't tried the moss but i am using the moist towel i check it every other day or so and make sure its nice and wet and its inside a tupperware with two holes in it one on the top and the side and his skin is still very dry all cracking what can i do about this should i get a tupperware with less holes or do you think the moss will work better. His medium is the dirt that comes in a brick you don't think this could be drying out his cage????

Do you use a heatlamp or heat mat, and what are your temps? If you've got a glass viv with a screen top you could try to block part of the top to retain moisture.

Is there anyway you can post a picture of your snake? Where is the dryness and cracking? What may look like dryness and cracking may actually be wrinkles due to too much moisture. Unless your humidity is extremely low, the room humidity should be enough. Sounds to me like you MAY be going overboard with respect to moisture.

wrinkles huh??? so too much moisture can cause this well i doubt the cage has to much moisture there's nothing that can cause excessive moisture except the water bowl like i said the medium is the dirt that comes in the brick form and i completly dry that out before i put it in his cage but i havn't changed his cage for a while so the medium can't be the cause of these wrinkls or dry skin so i went out and bought a new tuperware with a smaller hole and put moss in it and i can' tsee the moisture content on the side of the tuperware so guess that should be good enough but today i came home and i found my snake hiding in the substrate sompletly buried underneath everything oh and the temps should be normal half of his tank is by a window which is sometimes closed sometimes open not in direct sunlight i have a heat pad but i don't use it during the summer and i don't really have the technology to put a picture up of him but his wrinkles are towards the back middle part around the fattest part of his body i don't think its wrinkles it feels dry

I'm having a hard time following your post. That "no puncutation" thing makes you hard to understand.

I think you need a humidity gauge before you monkey around with anything. A snake's skin is supposed to feel dry. Without better information, I just can't tell you what the problem may be (if there is indeed a problem).

sorry about the grammar i never was good in english, but i suppose i need to get a humidity guage for my cage. When i get this humidity guage what should normal readings be?? Should my cage be inbetween humid and dry or slightly on the humid side???

alright cool guess i'll be getting a humidity thing you know when i went to the pet store i asked the guy what i can do to fix this dry skin issue. This guy told me i needed one of those fogger things that go in cages for amphibians and said snakes like moisture?? He even sells cornsnakes but he did suggest a humidy guage so I'll let you guys know what the readings are when i get one thanks.

If you put a fogger in with your corn you're going to over humidify and cause your snake to get sick.

Get a humidity gauge and if the humidity is where its supposed to be, provide water and don't worry about it. I seriously doubt your snake has a dry skin issue. If you insist on treating this condition, get some skin conditioner for reptiles from the pet store and use as directed.

yeah i figured the fogger wasn't meant for snakes i wouldn't of gotten it either way but i did pick up the thermometers so the humidity is 55% and the temp is about 65 so i guess everythings alright.

Not that it will affect the dry skin but if your temps are only at 65 you may very well end up with other problems. Your ideal temps should be low to mid 70's on the cool side and mid 80's on the warm side with a hide on each side for the snake. I'd check your temps again and post some pics for members to see what your talking about with the dry skin issue.

well the humidity is 50 and the temp is 70 i live in san jose california it gets pretty hot out here and doesn't get too cold at night and half his cage is right next to the window so he's fine the only time i use the heat pad is during the winter and colder seasons but it seems like he's going to shed so after the shed ill keep and eye on his skin and if problems persist i'll post a picture but thanks much for the help and advice
