I know my current tank is way to small for my corn snake he is in a 10 gal fish tank, But my question is would a 5 foot x 20 inch x 18 inch custom made enclosure be too big for a corn snake, he is about 32 inches long

I don't think it would be a problem as long as you put plenty of hides in there and plenty of foilage for hiding :)
 
Agreed - the bigger the better, as long as a) there's loads of cover so he feels safe to move around and b) you can maintain the proper temp gradient.
 
Agree with the above answers. They aren't limited to a small enclosure in the wild.
