From a non-sporty girl point of view:

Football is entertaining... depending on whose playing (i was supporting Germany today but well done Spain)
American football is like rugby with the protecive gear on... According to wikipedia, American and Canadian football originated from rugby!
Aussie-rules Football is... I'm not quite sure what it is...

I prefer rugby (union. More rough and tough) nowadays... men in their tight tight shirts and tight tight shorts! :D
