Equipment Questions from a Newb

Hello everyone! First thread for this new member! I'm currently setting up a home for a baby corn snake and had a few questions about the equipment other members are using.

I will be starting the little guy out in a Sterilite type bin, probably a "Really Useful Box" with locking lid as I can get them free from work. Then eventually move him into a 20 gallon tank that used to house my brother-in-laws Ball Python.

My questions are what would be a good UTH for the small plastic bin? What type of thermostats are other members using? What brands of in tank thermometers have you had good luck with?

With all the research I've been doing my head is spinning. It seems like a lot of reptile related "gear" have some pretty horrible reviews. I'm especially worried about faulty thermometers and have been told to stay away from dial types but most of the digital ones I have seen aren't very reliable either.

Your 2 cents will help!

Hello Rogue,

I have had my corn snake for about a year. I have her in a 10 gallon herp tank with a heat lamp that they recommended for heat. Corn Snakes do not need but a few hours of heat to warm the tank up. I have many books that have citations about this. My corn usually will bury herself under the bedding that I have in the tank. I only leave my lamp on at night and turn it off during the day. And being you live in Texas, I doubt heat will be a problem. I had mine outside tonight in 90 degree weather and she was mad when I put her back in her tank. If you have a pet store that specializes in all kinds of animals, get a wood arch so it can take cover and get something like a suction cup plastic leave vine. It has worked for me. I am just advising from my experience.
