I really dont know what to do. my snake somehow got out of his tank and i didnt notice for 48 hours. its been two days since i knew he was out.

this is my first time handling an escape and i dont know what to do after looking everywhere.

its impossible to try and look over and over there are to many holes and heavy furniture.

what should i do? can i get him to come out if i put a mouse in the middle of the room or something??

thanks

You could try putting a mouse in the room he was in. The only thing is if he eats it and your not there you still wont know where he is. Make sure you look really good in the room he got out of. I hope you find him.

Unless you have holes in your wall he should turn up. Nobodys gonna let him out the front door.

Eventually he'll want water. Bait him with a water dish around dusk. Eliminate sources of noise that will spook him, and sit and wait. Close the toilet lid...LOL.

You can also try pop-bottle trap, put a pinky in the pop-bottle and the snake is supposed to go in, eat, and not find its way out. (you take the neck off the bottle and fix it back on so it makes a funnel)

I hope you find him soon. Hopefully water or food will tease him out into the open.

Not to alarm you but my friend who breeds snakes said he had a corn escape and it took him 6 months to find it. It got into the walls of the house and was in an extremly bad condition.

Also, check the tank for any gaps before you put him back in. Corns are notorious for remembering where they escaped from last time and it won't take him long to escape again if you don't get it sorted.

I suggest you try placing towels tightly at the crack under the doors of the room that it escaped in, and, or all the the rooms of your house so as to hinder movement around the house. This kept one of my escaped ones from leaving my dorm room. i found him under one of the towels the next morning. also check all the warm places ie under the DVD player or refridgerator.

Yep, do a search for more info, but here's some quick hints:

Follow DiamondLil's bottle trap suggestion. Chop off neck, stick back the wrong way, shove pinky inside, keep checking it.

Sprinkle powder over door thresholds (e.g. flour) so you can see which room its in.

Use sound traps too (e.g. crinkly plastic bags) so you can hear where it is when its slithering around.

Check under refridgerator. Seems many a cornsnake has turned up there!

P.S. Water not going to lure it out as fast as food.

I had my male escape before, and i threw flour on the floor,so that if he did move around the room he would leave a trail. The room was pretty empty at the time, the flour did help...I found him a day later.
:crazy02:

how did he find it? did he see it coming out of the wall or did he do some demolition? just asking as my snake has escaped and there are many holes in the walls, but as its a council house we can't demolish anything to look for him.

sorry forgot to say who that was to, infinite regarding;

Finding a Snake

Hiya!
I have lost my Corn Snake many-a-time and yt always end up finding him! It can take up to a week at some points. The best method I find has been mentioned already - place plastic carrier bags in corners, holes, crevaces and anywhere else you can think of. It won't be too long before you hear rustling noises if he is in the proximity. Pour flour by doorways and by cabinets and objects he can hide under too...
Also wait until at night as this is when they tend to move around the most and listen for the sound of the carrier bags!!
I hope this helps you, they can usually turn up and can take a while. My friends lost his for 6 months before the nextdoor neighbour found it emerging from his plughole!! It was retured and is in good condition.
