I'll be acquiring my snake in about a week - I had another corn years ago but unfortunately was unable to keep him due to personal reasons (divorce and relocation). I've been working towards this for over a year - waiting for big sales like the PetCo dollar/gallon, etc.

I know that I have the basics covered: 40gal tank, lid, UTH, thermostat, hides, water bowl, etc.

But I got to thinking - what are the things that you didn't think about needing in the beginning that ended up being really helpful? This time around I've added a digital scale, temp gun and a bottle of Nutribac.

I'd love to hear any other suggestions that experienced keepers would suggest for those just starting out beyond the basics.

One of the those plastic small reptile vivs, to put your snake in when you want to weigh him.

Sphagnum moss or paper towel for moist hides, which I make sure are always available and moist for him. A spray bottle that you can turn to mist. A separate bin or tank for feeding in.
I have a foodsaver for sealing frozen feeders when I get home, which stops them getting freezer burned and stuff.
I have a digital thermometer/hygrometer combo for the 'cool' side and a regular yellow digital thermometer for the warm side.
Fake vines and things for ground cover are also a good idea, which you can get at the dollar store.
These aren't things you absolutely NEED, but they're nice to have.
I would also recommend a way to secure your tank lid if you don't have one with a locking lid.

$4 to $6 dollar soldering rod. Kept snakes for over 4 years before getting one and they are sooooo useful! Work great at melting nice, non sharp holes in plastic. Works great for modifying all kinds of plastic things into good hides, such as tuppaware containers and things for humid hides etc ... And they are cheap too!
