Ever seen a snake strangle itself trying to pip?

I have a clutch hatching today. One of the little guys got his head out and appeared to be stuck. I poked it with my finger to check, fully expecting it to pull back into the egg. It tried to pull back but couldn't. I figured if it got its head out surely it could get back in if it wanted. Soon it had its mouth open and was clearly stressing. With the help of my wife we took some pointed tweezers and cut a slit next to the one it had cut and sliced it to make the hole bigger. After about a minute it seemed ok, and pulled back. Has anyone ever seen a snake suffocate before it even got out of the egg? Im afraid after all that poking and prodding it may decide to never come out of the egg.

Ofcourse, it happens. The lugs are the last organs to develope, and once they are developed, if they dont get out, they drown in the egg.

Yes it happened to me three years ago, all the snakelings pipped but one never came out & after a few days I opened up the egg and the snake was dead... it had the umbilical cord around it's neck, this is why I try not to disturb them much in the process of pipping
