Hi guys and girls,

I need some advice, I have 2 questions, first off, how do i give my snakes the right amount of excersize? and secondly my humidity is at a little over 80% they outside humidity is about 60%, do i need to lower the humidity or is ok? and if i need to bring it down how do i do that?

Kind Regards

Is your water dish near the heat source? If so move it to a cooler part of the tank, 2nd does the tank have plenty of ventilation yet is still escape proof?

if your snake is in the appropriate sized tank it will get plenty of excercise on its own.

Thanks for the reply

Well I have a 3 foot tank, and its got a bit of climbing stuff, the water is on the complete other side of the tank apposed to the heat pad, the thing is the vent for air is about the size of the palm of my hand, i have material to make another one about the same size if needed should I?

if your humidity is that high you may want to consider it. just to get some increased air flow.

Best wishes,
Chris

I see you have a ball and childrens python, which is more easy going? i want both, i just want to be ready for any probles i might come across, i've been bitten by a ball, not a nice experiance, not the snakes fault either, it was in the pet shop, they dont get handled, so which are more likely to bite, and which are easyer to care for?

because of availability of food and not being as hardy I'd avoid the childreni's until you've got a bit more experience (they aren't hard to car for) but BP's are quite a bit hardier. See if a BP goes on a hunger strike it could last 6-8 weeks and still be ok, but the childreni's I am constantly monitoring weight as its no bigger than a hatchling corn at 4-6 months. Temperment-wise, I'd say BP's are a little more on the calm side, but that has a lot to do with size IMO (in my oppinion) because of the childreni's being so small. my BP gets fed once a week but my childreni's gets fed ever 4-5 days depending on the weight of the pinky mouse.

Wow, South Africa, so far away! How cool :)

I'm not really sure if you can give them too much exercise, because I'm assuming if your snake got tired it would just know to rest. I take my yearling Luna out for about an hour every other day/every third day. I also let her swim in the bath tub once or twice a week for about 20 minutes, supervised. Sometimes she just wants to sit, so I don't know if she's tired or what but I just let her. Hope this helps!

Are you using a stick on hygrometer? I know my stick on reads 20% higher than the digital...if thats the case your humidity could really be 60% which isnt too bad.

I sorted out the humidity, i checked with a digital one and my stick on and they were almost exactly the same, at 62% on the digital. so im happy with the humidity now.
