Atlas' story.
About 2.5 years ago I took Sydney (my first rescue dog, she has a story all her own as most do) to the local dog park. We were the only ones there until a lady came with a boston. I love bostons and have always wanted one. I was petting Atlas and told the lady how I loved the breed and always wanted one. With a plesently surprized look she turns to me and says "Oh really, my daughter and her bf are going to put an ad in the paper tomorrow for him" I had just got a promotion at work and was seriously thinking of getting another dog. I even had a rescue and the humane society keeping thier eyes open for a boston for me. So what do I say "Ill take him, how much are they asking?" ............ "free" I was mystified, there had to be something wrong. A pure breed 1 yo boston for free, I must be dreaming. They didnt have his papers, but that didnt bother me. And he was already fixed, they just didnt have time for him. Needless to say I took him home.
Atlas was perfectly healthy, happy and a typical boston(a clown). He has the perfect temperment. Crazy, hyper, snuggly, an awsome ball fetcher. He submits to puppies, and can hang with the big dogs. When I take him places he thinks everyone is there to see him, and isnt shy to give kisses when they try to pet him. He even helped a 11 yo girl, whom had previously been attacked by a dog so was afraid of dogs. The girl sat on her mom's lap and Atlas sat by thier feet, we were sneaking him popcorn and she wanted to too. Without any prompting Atlas sat there with his mouth agap and she pretty much had to push the popcorn into his mouth. He was so gentle, and I was so proud.
By now your asking why I felt the need to "brag" about my dog. Well today we went to the vet, Atlas has started limping. I had seen a case on emergency vets, of a dog that had a luxating tendon. Thats all I could think of and asked the vet to tell me that thats not what Atlas' problem is. Well thats what his limp is from. Basically the tendon on the front of his knee doesnt stay where its supposed to be, causeing him pain and him to limp. The surgery to correct it is $3,000 and I would have to go into the city to have it done. (Im new around here and not sure which city he was refuring to). He did call another vet while I was there and that vet can do a surgery for $375. but its only 75% effective. For this moment he "perscribed" pain reliever. I gave him a pain reliever, and when we got home (15 min later) he was running around annoying Sydney, and generally acting crazy. I could tell he felt a ton better.
I know its just his leg. But I dont make a ton of money so even $375 is alot to me. He is totally worth every penny of it. I hope he falls in that 75%, or atleast until I can save up $3,000.
