Up all night
I thought I would share with you the interesting things Dante has been up too recently. First off, it was in the 80s here a few days ago so I brought Dante outside and set him in the grass with me crouching beside him. At first he just smelled around the grass but then he must have had enough because he made a mad dash for me and slithered around my foot and wouldn't leave. After the grass I put him on a large oak tree that is right outside my door and he climbed up and down the bark without even giving a hint that he might fall.
The next day was feeding day so I thawed a fuzzy and he was a super aggressive feeder and did his first real constriction. While he ate I cleaned his cage and I heard a strange buzzy noise coming from his feeding container, the little guy was in there rattling his tail like crazy! I guess he was warning the fuzzy that was already halfway down his throat to behave. :grin01:
Anyway thanks for reading ;)

Usually tail rattling while eating is a sign that they are nervous and may become upset enough to forget about eating if you continue to do whatever is making them nervous. Sounds like he ate ok, but in the future, I would back off if he starts rattling while eating. I have seen them spit up a meal and refuse to eat that day if they feel too threatened. But they will usually eat the next meal - it doesn't usually do lasting harm, unless it is a very shy snake.

Honestly I didn't even consider that he might be nervous. He has always been a good eater and nothing was really different about this time, so I don't know. Even though it could have been a sign that he was scared, it was absolutely adorable :). Thanks Kathy ;)

It's always possible that an individual animal is communicating something a little different than another animal using the same method. Maybe he was afraid that you were going to eat his mouse and was warning you away, lol! Can't say for sure, but it USUALLY means they feel nervous or threatened in some way. It is up to you to figure out the more exact meaning.

If you carefully observe your animal over a long time, you will develop your own "language" of sorts, and will be able to understand his moods and predict his behavior surprisingly well.
