I am tempted to put my cornsnake down on a bed or the floor to let him explore, but am worried. How fast can they move? I don't want him to get loose in a house with cats.

Well what I would do is lock the cats in a room (with thier litter box ;) ) Then allow the snake to crawl around on the floor just make sure you watch the snake very closely and don't let them get into anything that could hurt them. Baby corns are quick but not to quick for a human to catch.

I have 2 cats and 3 corns. The cats have their own bedroom so they get fed while it's snake time.

I let my older corn hang out on the floor and my bed as long as I'm right there with her. We had a little couch drama so no more "solo chilling" there. Corn snake + hole in the couch cushion = fail.

My 2 '09's I don't really let them out of my hands. Maybe on the bed a bit but only in area where they can't get out of my sight.

Attitude is very quick. I wouldn't dare put A down on the floor! Whoosh the snake would be gone, breaking the sound barrier heading for under the nearest heavy piece of furniture. Humphrey & Icabod are a lot calmer & much less zippy, so I let them explore on the bed or the futon while the cats are shut out.
