Boiling them is a big No-No. Reptiles cant process cooked food. You should leave them out on the counter for about 1-2 hours to thaw them ... then warm them up to above room temp.
You don't boil them. That'd be a nasty mess, I'm sure.
I thaw most of the smaller items (pinks through crawlers) in hot tap water. Pinks don't take but a few mins, the larger items may take some draining and re-adding hot tap till thawed.
When thawed, I'll take them out and roll them in paper towel to dry them off and then offer them. The rolling between paper towel also seems to 'tenderize' the buggers a little better, which does seem to be easier to eat. Some of my snakes seem to have problems with rigor mortised legs splaying out here and there.
I do the counter thaw method for larger prey (hopper mice through rat pups) if I have the time, as it usually takes an hour or two for them to be thawed clear through. Then I sink their bag in a sink of hot water for 5-10 mins for them to warm up a little, then feed. The bag keeps them dryish, as a few of mine don't like wet food for the most part.
I have a plastic Miami Dolphin cup I use only for the snakes. I microwave the water for about thirty seconds. Then put a frozen pinky in. Usually in about thirty more seconds the little meal is thawed. I to roll em around in a paper towel. It dries quicly and I can feel if it is completely thawed or to hot.
Just in case it wasn't clear: Microwaving water to thaw mice is okay. Microwaving the MICE, on the other hand... well, don't do it unless you like scrubbing mouse guts from your microwave.
