F/T smell

I tried to feed my girls tonight and when one refused (she never refuses) i got discouraged and went to pick it up to refreeze it and it smelled... i asked my friend what she thought it smelled like and she described it as bad meat....any thoughts... should i contact the place i got the prey items.

freezer burn?

You might want to check for freezer burn. I haven't noticed f/t items to have any odor.I prefer not to freeze an item once it's been thawed. I usually feed it off to something else or toss it out.But thats just me. :shrugs: Everybody does it different.

I havent had that experience, but it sounds like maybe where ever you got them, killed them and let them sit too long before freezing them. If it were me, I probably would find another place to buy my feeders. Maybe see about getting a refund on the feeder or a replacement?

i remember ages ago when i got my first corn, where i got my f/t mice from smelt really bad when thawed, and looked quite nasty, so i started breeding my own, guess they weren't fresh, (very old lol)

i bought them frozen and the place i bought them from will probably replace them... I also have heard that once thawed it is ok to refreeze but only once... i only had the thing out for like 5 min it didnt sit out all night, if it had it would be trashed. i was in the chat room last night talking to a few of the members... so i know what i will be doing.. thank you to all who replied.

have 7 snakes and I throw any uneaten f/t away. its only $.50 to $1.50 depending on your source. it won't smell any better the next time its used and if it is bad you won't be taking the chance on feeding spoiled food. :shrugs:
